    is that a milled area on butt where the sn should be? - it looks to have been de-serialized..

    its either a 3rd or 4th model double action 38 S&W (not 38 special) made between 1884 and 1905.. other than some internal mods, the only way to tell the diff between the 2 models is the sn range..
