local news...donkey killed by mountain lion

Guess I better bring the 12 gauge when I walk the dogs now. Just talked to a fella here visiting his mom for the holidays. They live maybe 5 miles from me. Their neighbor lost a donkey to a mountain lion last week. Nothing in the local paper. He said due to the "massive injuries " a bobcat and dogs were ruled out. Fish & Game denies that lions are here. Who you gonna believe? Me or your lying eyes? This is the northern part of Virginia where it meets Md and WV. The Appalachian Trail is nearby. Country living at it's finest. Hard8

Don't tell anyone you have a mountain lion there or it will be named an endangered species and every environmentalist whacko in 15 states will be there to really screw up things by outlawing, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc.

Down here we call them "panthers." They look like mountain lions but are slightly different genetically.

We've got them too... taste like veal. Makes great bockwurst... Treat it like pork.

Can you tell I grew up in the mountains?

Got a small place,26 acres, outside of Harrisonburg Va. Mountain Lions have been reported as seen on several local farms. Also I heard a few locals lost small newborn calves to bears. I have also seen a few Yotes in the area. Makes me wanna hit the woods with my 45-70 and my 629.

That's been the feeling around here too. Deer were almost wiped here in the mid 1900s. Now they have come back so strong they have pretty much eaten the mountain laurel into oblivion. Lyme is an epidemic. So the rumor for years was that Fish&Game (denied) released lions on the Appalachian Trail to thin the deer down as hunting has not done it. Another fella I know who is 2 miles from me and is not prone to tell whoppers, said two years ago he heard a commotion at his chicken house about 11pm. He goes out with a flashlight and sees a lion near the coop. He flashed his light further down the road and saw a second pair of the same yellow eyes, just closer together and closer to the ground. My county is consistantly the no.1 county for deer kills every hunting season. And now the season has been extended into March. No idea how many you can take now with all the extra tags you can get. But they have to be does. Add to that the Eastern Coyote, a documented maneater, has moved in. I got no problem with it tho, I prefer country over city. Better class of predator. H8
