As a cancer survivor, my prayers go out to Rush. Having been there and did that and knowing that it never really goes away, I can relate 100% to his ongoing condition.

There are a select few of us here that know exactly what fighting cancer does to your body, your mind and how it impacts those around you, you hold near and dear.

Life is a fleeting thing at best.

    Hope he triumphs it.

    Prayers sent....

Prayers for Rush. I hope he can fight and win. I have been fighting the effects of that terrible disease for 19 years. Times are tough sometimes but God is always good.

My mom fought it successfully for 21 years until it came back................that was 21 years to watch her grandkids and greatgrandkids be born

We all get to go. Life here has a beginning and an end. I just don't want my end to be anything but calm and peaceful. Right now, I'm a miracle of modern medicine and the good Lord insuring I have time left.

Week after next I get to be poked and prodded yet again. It's a never ending thing even in remission. I've actually gotten kind of used to it, sort of like my monthly port flushes. I decided I'd keep my infusion port in for the rest of my life. Like a badge of honor sort of but handy as well. Don't have to constantly poked for an IV. They just plug into my 'socket' now.

I sure like being a ' survivor' but it comes with a hefty price tag.

I think the most scary part (besides the chemo and what it does not only to your body but your mind (you get depressed and listless) is loosing parts. I lost a few. I seem to get along just fine without them. The human body has a way of doing with less I guess or at least seems like that.

I'll never be 100% like I was prior to but I can deal with that as I'm alive and still doing the things I like to do, just a bit slower now.

Guess being 70 has something to do with that as well but I don't 'feel' 70......

The worst part about the road that Rush is going down is the not knowing. No matter how prepared you think you are, in reality, you cannot prepare, you can only take it as it comes.

Guy across the road from me, his CEA level is abnormally high which usually means cancer of some type has invaded his body. I'm being very careful not to allude to much as I don't want to scare him. He's scared enough as it is. He's a young man compared to me with kids and a family to support so I'm playing 'dumb' and being vague about it. What I know, he don't need to know...yet.

Cancer is a terrible thing to have to deal with no matter who you are.

Why I insist that every male and female over the age of 50, get a colonoscopy and a blood draw at least every 5 years. Better to catch it early on and have a better chance of surviving it. The alternative isn't pretty.

Good for you Layne. I always find it amazing just how many survivors there are. I meet people almost everyday who have survived and bested it.
