    50 Years Ago Aug 15 th 1969

Fifty years ago on August 15 th 1969 5 boys from a Midwest farm town made the long drive in a 1963 Ford Fairlane to Bethel New York near White Lake. to a Dairy Farm owned by a Max Ysgur's . On that little 600 acre dairy farm was to be held a concert featuring many of the popular rock and roll artiest of that time . By the time the 5 boys arrived they had to park 3 miles from the farm and carry their camping equipment , food , tents and canteens of water. The boys used their fathers old military canteens, old metal coolers. Old military pup tents to sleep in. They paid the $7.00 ticket to get into the gate. But by that time over 50 thousand people had arrived. they estimated that they were 200 to 300 yards from the stage. Security was being provided by the Hells Angles motorcycle gang. Durgs and sex was everywhere. The heave rain turned the pastures to a muddy mess. We watched people sliding down the hills in mud slides made by the heavy down pours. These five boys grew up that week . They saw the best and the worst of humanity. Mixed with the the music of Richie Havens , Joan Baez, Santana, Janis Joplin,Grateful Dead, The Who, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Hendrix, The shows were postponed by heavy rain and electrical problem. occasional lightning. There was no ice to be had so they drank warm beer and water, ate a ton of sandwiches. Watched as a sea of humanity moved about and were part of a historic culture event that was forever marked in history and the history of Rock and Roll.

These five boys lied to their parents about where they were going. and suffered their parents rath when they returned home and the parents found out that the little camping trip was that far away and where the five had been.

5 boys became of age during that trip. Larry Riggs, Jo Jo Coty, Kenny Floriant, Donny Baranowski and ME !! the 1963 Ford Fairlane was mine. i was 17 at the time and turned 18 in December of that year. A year later Larry Riggs and Jo JO were killed in Vietnam, Kenny would die of cancer, Don;t know what ever happened to Donny . I was rejected for military service because of being partly deaf in one ear. I went to college and studied Criminal justice and the Rest is history. !!!

PS The Ford Fairlane was never the same LOL !!

On August 15th of 1969 I was at a U.S. Navy SeaBee boot camp in Gulfport, Mississippi. A couple of weeks later, hurricane Camile came ashore with 225 mph winds! I didn't even hear about Woodstock happening until much later!

I thought I recognized you in that crowd picture! I was 11 but I remember my oldest sister getting mad because my parents wouldn’t let her go.

I’d always heard that if you can remember Woodstock, you weren’t there!
If you can't be who you are, then you don't exist.

I "had" a chance to go with a friend but Parents would not allow me. Had I been a year older I would have done it anyway!!

Did you know that Joni Mitchell (who wrote the song Woodstock) did not attend. She was doing the Dick Cavett show and wrote the song in a hotel room in NYC!
