That should be a good one right out of the box. Would be interested in the range report as I have a 45-70 but have heard good things about the 444.

Are the new Remlin 444 guns still microgroove or did they get that rectified.

Welcome to the triple 4 club.. it's a shoulder thumper for sure. From what I've seen over on the Marlin Owner's forum on the new ones, the factory recoil pad is useless, especially with the Hornady 256 gr. Superformance ammo (2400 fps velocity, 3389 ft/lbs muzzle energy according to Hornady)... that stuff is just flat out brutal, on both ends of the barrel.

Do yourself a favor and get a Limbsaver recoil pad. The #10102 "Precision fit" pad matched my 444S buttstock perfectly, all I needed to do was unscrew the factory one and screw on the limbsaver. The top screw lined up with the existing hole, but I had to drill a new one for the bottom screw, no biggie.

Before buying, go to the Limbsaver website and print off the recoil pad template pdf file to double check fitment with your buttstock.

    I like your setup.

If they made a Marlin 444P again, I would be all over it.
