A critter visitor this past week..

When working from home. I looked out the patio sliding glass door yesterday morning and had this guest:

Snake was about 5 foot long and just slithering around the patio overhang. Not venomous so I let him, or her, to go on his merry and be a happy little snake enjoying life and eating rodents and vermin!

We have a 3'-4' bullsnake that hangs out here, he helps keep the gophers, ground squirrels, mice, packrat & buzztail population down.

And here I am the opposite of the Jim Stafford song, I actually do love spiders and snakes just not venomous ones. I don't like scorpions but they are pretty much armored so you swat one with a flyswatter it just gives you the finger, moons you and takes off!

We live in the timber on a bluff overlooking the river. We see a lot of the dreaded "varmint cong" around our place. The dogs keep a lot of it down, but snakes do show up once in awhile. I really don't like the rattley-headed copper moccasins!

We get copperheads here at times, when that happens one of these takes care of them and sends them to snakey Heaven:

"I don't like spiders and snakes...."

And I don't live in a place that has scorpions. We do have the occasional brown recluse or black widow. So my procedure is to squash any spider that makes it inside. I haven't seen a snake in my neighborhood. But my brother across town, used to have a pair of chickens (until some neighbor complained event though zoning regulations allow chickens) that ate garter snakes.

What I learned a LONG time ago at summer camp was to take that scorpion and place it in a circle of lighter fluid so it is surrounded by a ring of fire; they will then sting themselves to death when they can't see a way out............at least it worked the one time we did it...............
