Post Challenge, Unit coins and fansty ones

Here is a free PDF on the history of challenge coins, https://www.google.com/search?q=UAHC...utf-8&oe=utf-8 In the last few years there have an increase in first res ponder unit coins and fantasy coins to truely be a challenge coin there must be a rank on it. Either military or in the government officials ie president etc. Since there are few ranks in the police and fire depts. It wouldn't seem tyhat the challenge drinking game would work to well.

Back when I was in we didn't have challenge coins.
Never heard of or seen one until Desert Shield/Storm vets started coming into VFW's and American Legion post's.
We used ear's and gold teeth mid 60's to early 70's to find out who among us "walked the walk".
I have seen a few Naval cruise and Shell Back coins though.
Challenge coins are too PC for me.

Only thing I collect is dust. Tried collecting wives years ago but the collection cost me way too much money so I gave up on that.

They seem to come and go. Someone has to pay to have them designed and minted. When budgets are tight, what unit Commander is going to foot the bill. Most if them end up in a box with the rest of their memorabilia and seldom carried after a few weeks. Once a Challenger gets burned once or twice, they loose their appeal.
