I have a 4 inch 686 no dash I bought used a few years ago. About a year later I got a used 4 inch model 64-3. My 638 is aluminum and stainless and then last month I bought a new 4 inch 617.
Even though they are black, the barrel and slide on my M&P Shield are also stainless steel.

    I believe the heart of S&W collection is the S&W Model 66, 4 inch, S&W Model 639, and S&W Model 2266TGT.
