    Found this Garand today

Been on my list a long time but availability, affordability and cash on hand never hit at the same time. An older friend decided he wanted to thin some of his guns in case something happened to him. He did not elaborate and I did not ask. He will say when ready. He had this Garand he wanted to sell and would I be interested. I visited him and the rifle followed me home.
It is a Springfield Armory M1 Garand of 1951. This also is my birth year which is a bonus. So now am learning about the rifle in detail and will plan on shooting it when outdoor ranges get warmer and rain is not so frequent. Is there a recommended commercial ammo that would not be too high pressures for the Garand? Appreciate any info that would help me get started. This has been a dream that is finally fulfilled. He is coming over this weekend for a grand barbecue as I got it for less than $1,000.
The bore is at .302. Overall mechanically is sound and the stock has character.

    Congratulations.
It looks like a nice rifle, and the price is right.
Gee, if we would have known what we know about them now, we should have bought them back in the 1970's or 80's when they were only $79.

    Hindsight!

    Hey Jeep,

    Great score!

There are a couple (as I load my own, do not pay mind) of "Factory Offerings" for Garand "specific" ammo.

The Schuester Gas Plug can be of great help....both for the gas system/op rod and for accuracy...

I use the surplus Greek ball ammo from CMP, free shipping. I am a member of the GCA (Garand Collectors Association $25 a year dues) which allows me to makes purchases at CMP. A few purchases a year with free shipping makes the $25 worth it to me.
