Jeepnut, you are going to enjoy that rifle. Be ready at the range with it however, it will attract a lot of attention from other shooters! Be careful with surplus ammo. Some stuff made in the early 50's was still corrosive. The CMP is the best place to buy surplus as was stated earlier.

    Good find.

I acquired mine back in the early 80's from the DCM..predecessor of the CMP.
I have never fired a commercial rd through my Garand as I have several thousand
rds of military surplus from back in the day when it was cheap and available. I
don't reload as I don't shoot competition any more. The Schuster plug is highly
recommended when shooting commercial ammo because of the pressure..replacing
an operating rod can be quite costly. Mine dates to 1945 and is from Springfield Armory
and went through the Benicia Arsenal after the war. You did well as what the market
is at this time and you know the fellow you bought it from. Here's mine.

Not seeing any Greek 30.06 surplus ammo at CMP E-store, first time I checked in about a year. It is possible that I’m having a senior moment though. Looks like I’ll have to get me a Schuster plug when I run out of what I have left, maybe 600 rounds. I did see some for sale on GB (Go broker) for more than I want to pay.

Very nice M1 there! Congrats! The CMP ran out of Greek surplus last year but you may be able to find some in other places at a higher price. Federal makes some Garand specific and so does PPU and Sellier & Bellot. Here are some links but to order from the CMP you must meet their criteria so keep that in mind.
Sellier & Belliot. Civilian Marksmanship Program eStore & Civilian Marksmanship Program eStore & https://www.midwayusa.com/product/17...l-metal-jacket
    Federal https://www.midwayusa.com/product/95...l-metal-jacket
PPU. PPU Bulk Rifle Ammunition : Cabela's
Don’t forget enbloc’s as you’ll need a few! Have fun and shoot safe! Love hearing the PING!
Also if you need any assistance on disassembly and cleaning of your new M1 here are some links with good info. http://www.garandgear.com/m1-garand-tutorials & https://thecmp.org/training-tech/armorers-corner/
I see also your in NE Georgia so you are fairly close(wish I was) to the CMP South Store so maybe you could make a trip over and see what they have in stock which differs then what they sell online. https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/cmp-stores/south-store/

Dick, that is a very nice Garand there and looks awesome on the range.
Clifjr, I am getting some Sellier and Belliot M1 ammo at 15 a box which seems pretty good to me. I have your sights bookmarked. Thanks.
TN622 Thanks for the links and yep AmmoGarand is a favorite as I ordered some clips last Thursday and got the Wednesday. They seem pretty good place.

One other thing is if you get any foreign surplus ammo and you don’t know if it’s corrosive or not always assume it’s corrosive and if you shoot it you have to clean everything with a complete disassemble of your M1. There is a lot out there for sale and most will say if it’s corrosive or not but a lot of Garand owners stay away from it.

Dad made up a list of who gets what. He is giving me his M-1 Garand. With this CMP I will start thinking about a M-1 carbine. I shot one of those when I was in high school. Loved it. I have no interest in a 1911.

Good luck on getting the carbine. I don't have one but have shot my brother's and it is fun.
