Its illegal to hunt them in Nebraska but not to kill one if its a threat to you, your family or your lifestock. I've never heard of anyone shooting one that didn't claim it was a threat. Even if all it was doing was sleeping in a tree near their house. Never heard of anyone prosecuted for shooting a mountain lion either.

It appears the remains were from a murder victim. A suspect has been arrested, which confirms the cats didn't kill the man, but were simply eating the body, which is a concern for Game & Fish, hence the culling of the cats.

I was under the impression, that once a predator gets a taste for humans, it becomes more dangerous to humans. They (humans) are easy prey, and apparently.....taste pretty good too. Bob

This is the theory Bob, so the Game and Fish decided to take out the cats that were identified as eating the body. Normally these cats don't hunt humans, although they've been known to snatch small children if left unattended, but rarely do not attempt to go after adults at least. Now with a taste of human flesh, they just might change their habits, so better safe than sorry.

Maybe if humans stopped encroaching into their backyard, these cats would leave folks alone

If I remember correctly, you originally were from the 'mean streets' of NYC and now are in Florida, correct? Of course there's never been any encroachment on wildlife or Native peoples in those places, it's only us folks that live in Arizona that are guilty, got it. Geezus.....

Who was talking about Indians?. BTW, I also lived in GA, TX, ND, CO and NV and watched the masses from CA move in to NV and CO and force wildlife to the extremes.

And that is a shame unless it was killing cattle or sheep

With the restrictions on hunting these animals (and others), their numbers are increasing.
As the younger cats are pushed out to find their own territories, some are inevitably going come into contact with people.
A large predator that has lost it's fear of humans can be a very dangerous thing.
There's been numerous sightings and spoor in a 30 mile radius of my town.
I know for a fact of two incidents in Yankton, SD.
Both were put down ASAP, one near a school.

"Maybe if humans stopped encroaching into their backyard, these cats would leave folks alone."

Solution: You must now live in this multi-story government housing with feral humans.

Ain't happening, I'll take my chances with the cats instead.
