I recently came into possession of a set of N-frame Grashorn magnas, and I tried them on a prewar .38/44 Heavy Duty to see what they looked like. The appearance strikes me as so 1930s western-state lawman that I had to share photos of them.

I have shown this gun before with other stocks, but these fill up my hand better than any others I have had on it. I can't wait to get back to the range and try out this configuration. I imagine these stocks were made for a postwar N-frame, so they are not a perfect fit for this gun. With just a bit of sanding and polishing I can get them to fit this frame exactly side to side, but they are about 1/32" short for the length of the frame. That shortfall does not bother me. If I continue to like the look after they have lived on this gun for a while, I may make the minor mods that will get them to fit more closely.
This is a 1934 gun, so the magnas are an anachronism. But a late '30s copy of this model could have worn them, and that's my rebuttal to the "inauthenticity" argument.
