Here's a handy tool that REALLY helps simplify the job:
RUGERŪ MK I/MK II TAKEDOWN TOOL - Brownells
I've had mine for a lotta years, and it really helps speed up the process, especially getting the extractor out of that slot in the bolt; the pin inside the tool slips in-between the extractor and the bolt, and pushes back the spring and plunger under it, so the extractor just FALLS out of the bolt; and the wire loop allows you to pull the mainspring housing latch down, WITHOUT scratching the frame.....What's not to like for $14?

This is what I went with for my Mk III 22/45. Why, because I did not know the one David posted was available.
Oh well it is installed and does work as advertised, and I am happy with it.

RD, a buddy of mine has a Speed Strip Kit on one of his Mark II's.....In his words, "Dey Bee Da Poop".
I know quite a few people have "issues" stripping a Mark II, but to me, it wasn't that hard, after I locked one up good and tight a time or two.

Looks like the cats meow.
I use a old tooth brush handle and a bent paper clip to do the same job. MK I or II's are pretty easy to tear down.
I use the AGI tool: A Disassembly/reassembly DVD!
Mike
I need one, have run out of paper clips
Forrester, While I've gotten better with the Field Stripping.......my main problem is .....getting it back togther!Getting better at reassembly too.....it only took me an hour yesterday afternoon!!!!!
My main problem arises when trying to get the the bolt stop into the hole. The little Yoke on the firing pin boesn't want to line up with the holes in the receiver and bolt. Also, once it gets in there, the Main Spring Housing doesn't want to swing into the slot. As it goes in, it pulls the Bolt Stop partially back out, so it won't go together. If I work at it for the next 15 minutes.........it finally goes together. BTW....I use the a toothbrush handle and a paper clip, the same as Jim.
Now, you know why I prefer revolvers! I've had those apart.....and back together without too much problem. But, I leave the more advanced work for S&W. I've got ' The S&W Revolver: a Shop Manual'.......BUT....I haven't got the nerve to go .....all the way!!!!Bob

I made the mistake some months go of talking up the Ruger to the fetching Emma .
Then I compounded the mistake by renting one at the range w her .
She loved it .
THEN , I read how much trouble they are to breakdown and clean .
I've been trying to entice her w many other .22s ever since .
She just gives me the evil eye ........................
