    Tackle Box Gun Cleaning Kit

So where do you keep all of your gun cleaning stuff? Mine was all on a shelf in my basement workroom. Very neat and tidy. Two problems with my system though....

The first was that I found I kept walking back and forth between my work bench and the shelf where my cleaning stuff was stored. I would forget one item and the need another.

The second was that occasionally I needed to bring my cleaning kit to the range. Sometimes I would have down time and I wished I had a portable kit so I could clean one of the guns I finished shooting.

Well, I didn't want to buy duplicate cleaning items for a portable kit so I figured I'd put together a reasonably sized cleaning kit. It turned out that Bass Pro Shops had a perfect Plano fishing tackle box called the Lockjaw Layered Satchel (Model #3950) and it cost under $14. It worked perfectly!

Of course it also gives me a great spot to place some stickers I've accumulated over time as well!

Notice that it's relatively thin and fits in my shooting duffle bag, under a car seat, in the trunk and it has a great carrying handle built in.

Inside the first level is all of my cleaning bore brushes, tornado brushes, toothbrushes, and cleaning rods along with some other odds and ends.

I printed out the caliber designations for the bore brushes (it's hard to know which are which sometimes, especially 9mm and .40 or .44 and .45) and then taped them inside their specific compartments.

The second level holds my shotgun and rifle cleaning rods and accessories for the long guns as well.

Notice that I used my Dremel to cut out some extra notches to keep the cleaning rods in place. Everything stays secure in its individual spot with the user adjustable compartment dividers, even when the kit is upside down, flipped over, or tossing all over the trunk.

Works good for me and now I just take it off the shelf and set it on my workbench when I clean any gun. I can also bring it to the range when I need to.

That's sweet looking. Although, it's entirely too organized for me. I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt, as in where is that dang brush???

Mine's piled into several old wooden cigar boxes. It's still "The Thrill Of The Hunt" during off-season......

My collection has grown quite a bit so I have several boxes like that at home.

I still keep a bottle of Breakfree, patches, rod and brush and a bore snake in my range bag, and I still have to hunt in the bag.

Yours is a good way to keep organized at the range.

Isn't neatness a sign of insanity?

My psychiatrist says neatness is a sign of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Your set up is really nice. I only have six guns, but I may adopt your setup. My tool box is as well organized as your gun box. It is nice to have everything in it's place for when you need it.

Weighing in a little late on this thread, but here's my main, portable cleaning/gunsmithing kit:

Plano Model 8606 canteliever tackle box, made in the U.S. of A., in the Great State of Texas!

Had it for a lotta years, has done Yeoman Duty since I bought it.....wish I had a nickel for every weapon that's been cleaned by that box.
