Red face Shooting gloves for an old Geezer.

SD 40 recoil is bruising my trigger finger. Can any one recommend a glove to help with this problem, other than weight training.

Shooting Glove for an old Geezer

    Anyone !!!

I have a SD40 that is bruising the heck out of my trigger finger. This is a little beast when it come to recoil.. I like the accuracy, but the pain in the finger isn't worth the shoot.

At a hair less than 23 oz, the laws of physics are working against you. A lighter bullet might help (155s instead of 180s).

Though I am far from a old geezer, sadly I am on the BAD end of geezerdom, I have also found that the PAST gloves are the best thing going. Can't remember where I got mine but a Google search will show they are everywhere, and I THINK about $20?

Get a pair of snug fitting Mechanix work golves, they're ideal for just such usage. You can get them at any Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, or any other place that sells supplies for jobs where hand protection is necessary. You might even be able to find them at the local Wally World. They make different styles. Some have palm pads that are used mainly by people that drive hammers or vibrating equipment. They also come in different colors. You really need to try them on, so you get the correct fit. If you use them only for shooting you can cut down the trigger finger so it's fully exposed but you'll retain the protections the glove give for the rest of your hands. My wife wears them regularly when we're having long sessions where her hands would otherwise be punished from all the shock. I know it would seem silly to cut the trigger finger off the gloves, but most of the pounding you're feeling is really from the nerves in the palm and joint pads just below the finger joints on your palm. But since you're having finger pain you might want to keep the glove intact to see how it works as a full glove..

I buy the cheap weight lifting gloves at one of the big box sporting goods stores (Academy, etc.) for about $5.00 and usually get more than one pair. They have great padding in the palm and mesh elsewhere (to stay cool down here in the Texas summers!). Just my two cents worth.

I also use these Mechanics Gloves for shooting as well as a variety of other activitys. They are cheap and when they get dirty you can even wash them.

A solution that worked very well for me was a cheap golf glove for my right hand. I used it for quite a while in competitive shooting and it never wore out. If I had needed a new one, it was cheap to replace.

    Cool

A couple of wraps of white medical tape on your trigger finger below the first joint before range time should solve your problem and you will not loose the feel of your weapon for those times you may need it in a defense situation and not have gloves on.

If dat don't work the golf gloves will.
