I wear glasses for reading and shooting with progressive lenses. I have no issues with them. If I was in your position. I would find a good eye doctor get a exam. Then find a real good place to make the eye glasses. The position of the progressive part of the lens is very critical. That part of the lens has to be centered on your eye. Not all places can do this properly. Plus the lens makers are not all equal Some are better than others. Hunt around do your homework and you should be problem free. Most places that sell eye glasses do not use the top shelf stuff. They use what ever is cheapest from the supply house that makes the lenses. Quality is a key factor here.
    Good Luck

Is there any way you can get to an eye doctor and have an inexpensive pair of shootin' glasses made for you. You need to wear protective eye gear anyway. Why not have a pair made that'll fit the need. You could keep them in your range bag so they'll always be ready. Many shops including Walmart optical have $49.95 specials on a regular basis. It'll certainly improve your comfort level at the reange too.

    Regards,

Just get a Red Dot scope. Eye sight problems will be a thing of the past. It doesn't even have to be an expensive one. The cheap ones work good, but they may not be sturdy enough for hunting. Bob

Cheap reading glasses here too. For one most of them are made from matierials such as Lexan and not glass so double as moderate protective eye wear. When going to select a pair of glasses I do this. Put the glasses on and then hold a ball point pen with the tip uncovered at arms length in your shooting hand. When you get a pair where you can see the tip of the pen fairly clearly as well as whatever is at the end of the isle in the store you have your glasses for the range. For self defense go with the Crimson Trace grips. I recommend getting their info booket that comes with a DVD. You will be a believer after that.

I found the only upside to aging is the fact that I now have a built in excuse for not hitting the X.
I'm not sure I want to mess with that.

Great thread guys! I'm slightly near-sighted. I was wearing pop bottle lenses until I had laser surgery 17 years ago. Long story short, my eyes have begun to weaken again, plus I am starting to get old guy farsightedness. This is an excellent thread of info. Getting old sucks, but it's better than the alternative, eh?

Yep, I'd rather be mowing the grass than growing the grass.

I have progressive tri-focals with the middle grind set for arms length focus. This works well for normal hand work, leaning back in an office chair and reading my computer monitor and also Weaver stance pistol shooting.
