Fried boloney and eggs still nauseates me to this day.

Fried boloney and eggs still nauseates me to this day. Think of back & forth - up & down bracing yourself for the next dip & roll while watching boloney/eggs sliding on the griddle in the mess deck. Securing a sliding Amphibious Tractor that’s broken loose from its tie downs watching it crush timbers you’re using to secure it from sliding. Witnessing a Seahorse helicopter pitch off the deck of a LPH taking a plunge into the ocean with crew and troop load silently thinking how glad you weren’t in that helicopter. Bracing your self as the ships props break the surface and shakes the ship taking the northern route to Japan in February. Going over the side of an APA in semi-rough rough seas hanging on to the net for dear life and timing your release into the Mike Boat as it pitches.

The amphibious assault ships I was on Terrell County 1157, Waldo County 1163, Henry County 824, Lorain County 1177, Okinawa LPH3, Iwo Jima LPH2 and APA (?). One military transport named the USNS General Patrick.

This was all in the Old Corps that issued serial numbers.

Amphibs were (are) all work-all-the-time. I was an "airedale" but I knew a proper blue-water keel helped to keep all that rollin' at bay!
