Thinking about fully polishing my 659!!

hey everyone, i posted this in gunsmith forum but i figure there are more ppl here wondering the same thing and the post will be seen by more ppl which might give me better odds of advice. So i was thinking about getting all the flat-stainless parts polished to match the rest of the gun. I was thinking about starting with wet sand 2k, followed by 3k wet sand, then polish with mothers mag, then finish with mothers billet. What does everyone think? Has anyone ever donethis before? I really dont want to make my gun look worse so any advice or experiences would help.

Still thinking about doing it, so i presented the question at my local gun store and they said it is only possible with the slide since its all steel. They said my frame is made of alloy, not sure what they mean. Can anyone clarify and is this true because i thought my frame was also stainless steel.

I will give you my advise, I had a S&W 4506 and polished it to a mirror finish. Looked fantastic till I would touch it, then looked terrible. Could not keep the finger prints off of it. Bad Idea, trust me.
The way I did it was by hand. 800 grit automotive sand paper wet/dry. then 1000 then 2000 then mothers. Mirror finish was the result.

According to the Standard Catalog, the 659 has a stainless steel frame and slide. Your local shop may have it confused with something else.

Personally, I am not a fan of highly polished guns.

"Highly Polished", plated, or 56 Chevy bumper chromed guns are great. It helps me see the fellow holding one a whole lots better.

If a refrigerator magnet sticks to the slide, it's steel. If it doesn't stick to the frame, it's alloy.

You can polish ANY metal surface. I have polished aluminum, and alloys.

I wish I could but I sold the gun a couple years ago, never took pictures of it.
