586/686 "M" and an impertinent apparent "attitude"

So as not to pirate Keith7's thread:

JRD1976 asked a question in Keith7's thread regarding why Atarian's L frames had never had the "M" for the hammer-nose bushing/primer flow problem correction.

JRD, I don't know you well enough to judge if you were trying to troll-up a controversy or asking a legitimate, if rather bluntly posed, question.

Atarian stated his life did not depend on those guns, as he had other resources for defense. To me that answered any question I might have had, had I the temerity to question another forum member in that direct manner. Here's something else you, apparently haven't considered, that you may chew on:

I have a 586 and a 686, both no dash, both safe queens. I do not shoot these revolvers. I am also a collector. I own other guns that are dedicated shooters and/or carry weapons.
I prefer not to seek the modification on these two mentioned guns because I specifically wish to keep them as close to factory original as possible. That is important to me for a collectible. I did not buy them to carry, I bought them as part of a legacy I wish to leave to my daughter, hence, collected for that specific purpose.

Wrap your, apparently, truculent attitude around that.

Re: 586/686 "M" and an impertinent apparent "attitude"

The "PROBLEM" with the 686, 586 L frames did not always show up as a matter of fact I have never heard of it showing up in any of the many guns that I saw used or sold in the 1980s before the recall was announced. I personally fired many hundred full house magnums through my model 686 and observed qualifications of several others on my department for several years. I observed L frame qualifications of several other police departments. Being Police Officers that depended on our revolvers we all sent our L frames to S&W Warantee Service asap after we heard about the recall. Did we ever see this problem? Heck no!!!! If I were just using my revolver for target practice I probably would not have sent it for repair because I certainly did not see a problem with it.

    MMitch,
I'm in total agreement with your comments and position on the service recall.
Factory original has a distinct value in a collectors gun.
Look at all those wonderful Ruger Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks that were modified with the "repaired" hammer block. It destroyed their real value. Most owners that had the modificatons done didn't keep the original parts that were returned to them with their revolver. So, those guns can never be returned to their original state. That's very sad to see all those excellent revolvers lose their value so quickly, because of a "repair".
I vote for keeping it original and untouched myself.

Yes, but is it at all possible that you (with just 12 posts here) misunderstood a regular here? You came off sounding like an @#$. He plainly stated that he didn't use the L frame guns for self defense so your aguament is moot.

I have a mint 6" early 586 in safe right now that hasn't had the mod. It has sat in the safe undesturbed for about 8 or 9 years. You care to call me out too?
