The only info I have is ... it's a nice looking piece of hardware.
Sorry .. that's all I've got to offer.![]()
Anyone own one or have any info/experience with the .44 MAG "Deer Hunter" edition model 629-6 ? It has a 6.5 inch ported barrel, Factory wood grips, factory blue case, unopened test fire cartridge envelope, unopened master lock gun lock, 2 mechanism lock keys, all paperwork and manuals. Is it a limited edition model? What was its original cost? What years produced? How many produced? What's its frame designation? It's in excellent condition with less than 12 rounds through it. Owner deceased and son considering selling it to me. Whats it worth? Thanks in advance for any comments/replys.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
First off let me make this perfectly clear I am no expert by any means, but I have done a lot of reading especially about the firearms I own with that up front, the only thing I can say about it is it was probably made after 2006, I have what I believe to be the latest version of the Standard S&W catalog and it was produced in 2006 and "Deer Hunter" is not listed, a 6 1/2" mag-na-ported barrel 629-6 is listed 2002-2006 called the "White Tail" with laser etching of 2 deers but not yours. Compared to other examples with SS, 6 1/2", magna ported and laser etching could easily go from min $1,250 to $1,850.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
It is a beautiful piece and I would give him $1,000 today if it were for sale.![]()

Thanks for the reply rjgnwdc. I'm a novice at best. That's why I decided to post on this board. I called the owners son this morning. The son didn't know much about it other than he thought his Dad bought it new at Cabelos about 2 1/2 years ago. He did mention that the factory test fire cartridge packet in the case is dated 3/23/06 so I agree it must be from late 2005 or early 2006. This particular gun definitely has "Deer Hunter" etched midway on the side of the barrel with a laser etching of a single deer above the side of the grip. Just searching the internet, I cannot find any info for this particular model. Also went to S&W website and did a search but came up empty handed. I appreciate your reply and hope that someone else might step up and offer some info.Originally Posted by rjgnwdc

Well,
I own one.
I use it and carry it for self defense in MT for bears while in the field. Its a little heavier than I would have liked, but the longer barrel and full under lug make it a breeze to obtain my target quickly for fallow up shots.
I have searched for info on this one as well to no avail? But I am keeping her as my carry gun until I am convinced there is something really better.
I keep her loaded with 300gr hard cast for the purpose of protection, but hunt with her with 240 hollow points.
I have owned her for about 4 months and took a black bear on a stalk this spring. 40yd shot and preformed as expected. I have to say though, the ported barrel is hard on my ears.
She is a finely crafted firearm, but I also have a Super Blackhawk 7.5 that holds better groups for a true hunting partner.
Any other info on her would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
