    New Grips for my 617!!!

Some may remember my post from a month ago that I bought a S&W 617 unfired in the box from a fellow shooter for $500. I always wanted a double action .22 and this one sure fit the bill. It's the perfect practice gun for my 686 No Dash that I use in Bullseye competition.

The gun came with the Hogue rubber grips with the S&W logo. I liked how they felt, but I just don't care much for rubber grips.

After much searching around, I decided to give the Hogue Monogrip a try - the ones made out of wood. I went to their website and I was stunned at how many options they had.

I decided on cocobolo, checkered, with a single finger groove instead of the standard double grooves, and with the grip cap.

I paid online and received a personalized email from an actual person letting me know that my grips would be custom made as they were not "in stock" the way I wanted them.

I always think of Hogue as a mass manufacturer. The email said it would take 30 days. And exactly 30 days later, the grips arrived today in my mailbox.

WOW! They're gorgeous! The grain of the wood is outstanding and photos don't do it justice. I love the fit and the grip fits my hand perfectly. The single finger groove was the way to go. The checkering is outstanding as well!

I am very satisfied with these awesome grips and I love how they look as well!

I have looked at those over the years and thought they would be better than the "one size fits all" multi finger groove that do not fit anyone.

Hogue does make some nice looking grips. I have a finger grooved Pau Ferro on my M-17-4. Looks outstanding! Bob

Looks great, Steve! Nice checkering pattern too.

I've spoken with them before and they're great to deal with. Very nice folks..

Those are beautiful grips - and they look like they'd fit the hand really well. They look great against the stainless of your 617.

I think we need a range report!

I used to only think wood looked good on blue, but lately it's looking sweet on stainless/nickle as well, VERY nice Steve!
