I don't think the 27 was ever called a Combat Masterpiece. The Masterpiece series was the K-22s (22LR), K-32 (32s) and the K-38s (38SPL). Besides that, the C.M. referred to a 4" gun not a 5" gun. Maybe some in Canada use a different lingo.
One of these just showed up at an online dealer. I have heard of the model 27, which if I can remember correctly is a large (N) frame. I have never heard of the combat masterpiece, and can't seem to find anything on the net. It has a 5" barrel and adjustable rear sight, oversize hammer and trigger with wood grips. The bore is described as excellent and overall condition is listed as "very good". Price is $599Cdn.
If anyone has any information/photos to share that would be great.
Thanks,
Swamp

If two us are exactly alike, one of us is unnecessary.
Right, the Combat Masterpiece (pre-15) is the K-38 with a 4-inch barrel and a ramp sight, arguably the finest all-around revolver S&W ever made.Originally Posted by diamonback68

Just make sure the gun in question is the Model 27-2 .357.
The Combat Masterpiece, as others have mentioned, was built on S&W's venerable "K" frame size. Later, S&W also made a .357 version called the "Combat MAGNUM" which came in .357. This included the Model 19 (blue or nickel plated) and it's stainless steel brother the Model 66. The K frame became popular with cops in the 60's - 80's due to its smaller size and lighter weight vs. the big N frame .357s . . . the plain-Jane Model 28 "Highway Patrolman," and the fancy version . . . the Model 27.
Thus, if it is a Model 27 it will be a big revolver and have gorgeous features such as a checkered top strap and rear sight, as pictured on this 3 1/2" barreled specimen of a nickel-plated 27-2:
Hope this helps,
Tom
The Model 15 was also called Combat Masterpiece, I cleaned too many of them in the Air Force to forget that rollmark.

That is very interesting. I just double checked the advertisement and it does say it is a 27-2 combat masterpiece. I do not doubt that you are right, but I am surprised that this certain dealer got it wrong, as they are pretty large. When I checked just now, it says that the gun is sold, so I guess I am still looking.
Thank you all again for your input.

What do they always say......"He who hesitates......" Bob
Right you are Bob.
If it were a rifle or shotgun that I was looking for, I don't think I would be having such a hard time. I know very little about handguns, although thanks to people like the excellent members of this site, I am learning more all the time. I am sure that I will be seeking more advice in the future.
Thanks again,

Swamphunter, One of the things that you will learn very quickly, about buying S&W's......nothing... any good sticks around for long. "Strike while the iron is hot!!!" Everybody here, learned that lesson the hard way.![]()
If you like something, chances are, that a half dozen other guys will like it better than you!!!![]()
