    Model 681

The 681 is the only L-frame I really like. It is a sleek looking natural pointer, that has tack driving accuracy.

You don't read/hear much about the 681 or it's blue sister the 581.

I picked mine up at an out of the way mom & pop gunshop about three years ago. I got it for practically nothing, and it has been the best buy in a handgun I ever made.

Any other fixed sight L-frame fans here? Regards 18DAI.

I agree.... I really like the 581 / 681 for the same reasons I like the 58, 520 and other "Heavy Duty"-type guns. All business, portable, simple and completely reliable. Rough-and-tumble at it's best.

I do, I found a 99% 581 in nickle a few months back, fantastic shooter, slick as glass action.I think I paid them $300 for it.

The S&W 581 is the blued cousin of the 681. I kinda like the old blued models too.

    Re: Model 681

WGlide90 - It is a nice "duty type" carry gun. I do find it a little large, and slightly heavy for any concealed type of carry. I'm 6' 1" and 240. I can conceal the 681 in a Murpy's open top OWB holster......just barely.

A good belt and holster make the 681 much easier to live with as a duty handgun.

Back in the day when I worked High Point NC as an Investigator I carried my 681. The "community" referred to me as the "blue eyed devil with that big silver gun". "That aint no cop gun!!" was a phrase I heard more than a few times. The 681 makes an impression, especially when loaded with Speer 158 grain Gold Dots....and pointing in your direction!!

texagun - Welcome to the forum!!

You know how to make an entrance! Beautiful 581, thanks for sharing the picture.

    Regards to all, 18DAI.

    Re: Model 681

18DAI, I hear ya on the size bein a bit big or heavy, just that I have all large revolvers and anything under 6" is a better choice for carry!!!! (I carry a M&P 40c now)

I have a 6" 686, so that would be a smaller gun to me.
