    SW .32 Model 31-1 Value

I have recently be given a S&W .32, Model 31-1 Regulation Police H113750. It is in the orginial box and has never been fired, obviously new.
Wonderful looking handgun but have no idea what it is worth or when it was manufactured. If it is not very valuable I would like to shoot it since I am a shooter and not a collector.

    Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Your Model 31 left the factory somewhere between 1975 and 1980 with a serial range of H100001 - H139900.

Some pictures would be nice. New/unfired are pretty rare, though obviously they do exist. Not a shot against you, just some guns appear to be unfired on a quick glance.

The 31-1 engineering change is where it changed from the improved I frame to the J frame. As to value, the book says $375 for as new in box but that is a bit dated by now. Around here, that would be in the $500 range.

    Forester-

I will run a rag through the gun to see if there is any residue and will check the area around the barrel across from the cylinder. Thanks very much for the info, maybe I will not shoot this one.

I also received a Colt Police Positive in .32 nickle, ser. no. 61582. Don't know anything about this other than I found a series of serial numbers that indicates it may have been produced in 1908. There is a tiny bit of ware around the cylinder and very end of barrel as it was used by a power company lineman who in the 1950's rode a horse to inspect lines in the ruarl part of Virginia. The nickle is so bright and new when my brother saw it he mentioned how beautiful and new the chrome was. Both guns were given to me by a elderly gentlemen who no longer wanted the guns now that he lives in a retirement community. This gun is a keeper.

    Va6,
I just obtained a close cousin to your Reg Police.
I now have a model 33-1 in 38 S&W. It's in excelent condition. I paid $350 for just the revolver.
I'd say the $450-500 range is in good order, for one in pristine condition with box and all.

The average response time for 911 is 20 min., the average response time for .357 magnum is 1400 FPS.
