    Smith & Wesson Governor

Just thinking about getting a new Governor, but one thing keeps me waiting on "pulling the trigger". I like the mix and match theory, but why did they stop at three different rounds? Unless the N frame isn't strong enough to handle the 454 casull, why didn't S&W cut it down to a 5 round cylinder and make the 454 a fourth offering in the mix?

Hi spfldguns and welcome to the forum:

That's a great question........that I don't have an answer to.......chuckle.........but, I'm very interested in the S&W Governor and wondered the same thing myself.

I look forward to the answers/opinions/comments.

    Best Regards,

They have the 460 for the 454 cartridge. The Gov (IMHO) was to grab some market from Taurus, I suppose they did but, certainly not a market I was in anyway.

On that note,,, ever notice when something is made to do 3 different things, the thing does none of them well and all of them so-so? Reminds me of the Chevy El Camino and Ford Ranchero. It was no car and sucked as a pick-up truck.

Thanks for the welcome Geezer, and to azmick, isn't it funny that so many years ago, Taurus was copying S&W, and now S&W seems to be copying them--and many others.

Welcome aboard from Florida the "GunShine" state.

The answer to your question may be two fold; one, a .454 might cut into their X-frame sales, two, a strength issue.

Not that an N-frame would "blow up", but exhibit excellerated wear, which means more customer service complaints.

They had enough with the titanium cylinder issue with some models; so much so that they replaced them with stainless steel cylinders to cut down of complaints.

But that's just my opinion, and like belly buttons (cleaned that up ) everbody has one.

O.K. so let's forget about the 454 Casull (I've got a RugerAlaskan 3" 454 - I love hand-cannons). Does anyone have a Governor, and how do you like it ?

Welcome! I think the .454 would have made it more interesting although probably more than a handful. My problem with guns like the Judge and the Governor is that they are overly bulky for the .45 calibers while the .410 isn't really what I would want to shoot someone with out of a pistol length barrel.
    U. S. debt explained...Let's say, you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood......and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceiling.
What do you think you should do?
Raise the ceiling or pump out the crap?

If S&W can make this combination work, why not a regular N frame like the 25 or 625 that would handle both the 45 ACP and the 45 Colt?

Spfldguns.....WELCOME Good People here........The Governor...is a confused Marketing ploy by S&W...it wont last long...I love that they offer it with Crimson Trace Laser Grips to make sure the 410 round is pointed correctly.. 45ACP&45LC&410....your better off with PIZZA&WINGS&BEER.......
