Curious about what is the problem with having a revolver firing both 45 and 410? Given that I've read most self defense engagements are at about 7 yards, both seem adequately nasty.

akmatov.....The thing that work's best in this world are the one's that are simple. You don't need a GUN to shoot 3 different rounds...S&W is just chasing the Judge revolver. Yes gun fight's are mostly less than seven yards...but I don't have to buy 3 different boxes of ammo to do it..Make it simple....FORGETABOUTIT

Well we know that the Judge will kill watermelons, my neighbor had to have one and so now he does - But I'll bet he still packs his model-38 more than his Judge. I briefly flirted with the idea of 'a good snake gun', very briefly, I can load my 38's and 44's with B B shot cartridges. The Governor might appeal to a customer who only wants one handgun and the versatility seems a valid reason - But, it's Just not my cup of tea.

Excellent question that I do not have an answer to. Having never looked at the rear of a Judge or Gov. cylinder, I got to believe it could be done (has been done in the Gov.)

If someone's crazy about this new type of pistol and just "has" to have one, so be it. If some one "loves" the idea of being able to shoot several different types of ammunition out of one, so be it. If someone just has to own a Judge with a S&W logo on it, so be it. My self, I like the constant "rocking" motion of one gun with one type of ammo during serious social encounters. No BLAM! POW! BANG! fireworks. Just hold, squeeze, tap-tap-tap and done.

My take is if you want one to have fun shooting then go for it. I would rather have the .45 with the shorter cylinder(non .410 capable) that you can carry and conceal. I would not trust the .410 over the either of the .45 calibers consider the loss of velocity and the weight of the projectile in .410. Even the .410 slug is only about 100 grains in weight. I agree with you about the nasty part but then I don't want to be shot with any type of firearm from rimfire on up.
    U. S. debt explained...Let's say, you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood......and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceiling.
What do you think you should do?
Raise the ceiling or pump out the crap?

I don't know about the Governor, but my LGS seems to sell a lot of "Judges." From what they tell me, most people who buy them simply talk about how much fun they are. I'll bet they are. It would be a hoot to shoot cans and such with I'll bet.

They might be ideal for self-defense, but for years guns that weren't ideal have worked for self-defense (22's, 25's, 32's, and so on). They're all better than crying and begging "Please don't hurt me."

I don't want one, but I don't blame Smith & Wesson for jumping on the bandwagon. They're in business to make money. If I was a stockholder, you can bet I'd want to know why not, if they weren't.

Freedom Arms, and Heritage both also have jumped on too, apparently.

Just give me a .44 mag. Git it done. At 7 yards, just shoot them.

Is it a prerequisite to drive an AMC Pacer in order to own to own a Governor????
