Info on a model 19-3 I'm looking to purchase, please?

Serial # 2K871xx. Listed as a 3" barrel. I understand that barrel length would be rare on a 19-3, however..

    Looks like 1972.
The Model 19 is the worst revolver you could ever buy.
What you need to do is get me all the info you can on who the seller is, so I can discuss their lack of compassion to their customers.

I'l do you a huge favor and get it from them right away, so you won't be tempted any further from such a terrible decision you might make buy taking it off their hands. After I have it fully secured, I'll be able to further advise you on what other type of handgun might suit your needs better.

I hope you realized from the first sentence that I'm only kidding.
The Model 19 is one of the finest carry revolvers you can get your hands on. I currently own one [19-4] and I have it's stainless cousin [66-2]
The 3" barrel length isn't so much rare, but certainly uncommon. If the price is right, you should run or drive to your dealer as fast as you can and get it before somebody else does. Be sure to let us know if you do get it, and post a few pictures as soon as you ccan too.

    Regards,
    Gregory

2K871xx would be 1972, 3" guns started at about K544682 (1964) with no indication of when they stopped or how many were made. Round butt gun, beware, it should have been "Lettered" if the owner is saying it's that rare (it is but fakes abound).

Thanks Mick. What do you mean by "Lettered"? How to spot a fake? My research shows that a 3" 19-3 is rare/uncommon. Gun is at a local pawn shop.

A person can send a request for the gun's history ($50) and the factory will spell out when it shipped and the configuration (barrel length, stocks, trigger, hammer, sights, finish,,,,). I keep dealers at arm's length if they say some thing about not getting a letter on a rare, or even an uncommon gun (nickel 28s are a perfect example)

The book says the 3 inch was rare in the earlier guns. Not too rare by your date.

Suggestions on low-ball offer to the most I should pay for it? Like I said, it's at a pawn shop. Ticketed for $700. Quoted $500, the first time I looked at it. Any concerns of buying from a pawn shop??

I missed that Forester, thanks for the heads up.
3" guns seem to be all the rage with shooters right now. I would not part with my 2 1/2" Model 19-2, not sure another 1/2" would matter but then that's what I said about 3 1/2" Model 27s after shooting 4" HPs. Anything less than $500 for a decent gun would be a pretty good buy but I could seea nice one going for 6, maybe even $650. Condition, condition and condition. It shold have the original stocks with it for the big $$$ and be in pretty nice shape
