new member with a 686 question

Hello all! I am a new member who has been browsing this site for a little while and who has decided to finally join. I am currently the owner of a 22A, an M&P9, and this afternoon I will be taking a look at a 686 Plus with a non-fluted cylinder which I am 99.9% certain I will buy. Sorry that I am making an urgent request as my first post, but I am taking off in about 45 minutes to go out of town to look at it, and I wanted to ask a warranty question. It seems to me I read somewhere about a recall on these, and that the units recalled and repaired were stamped with an "M" at the end of the serial number. Is this correct? What was the recall for? FYI I do not know the dash number but it is a key-lock model. Thanks in advance and I look forward to enjoying membership on this board with you fine folks!

A key lock model will have the updated modifications built in.
Welcome to the forum, while I have never shot an L frame .357, many here have and I believe them when they say the 686 and 586 are a great revolver.
I realy need to try one of those things but Triplelock, (Hank) will not send me his Mountain Gun to try out for a couple days (years)

    Cool

Welcome to the forum from sunny Florida.

I had a 686 pre lock a few years back and in a moment insanity I sold it.

Great shooter and it will handle .357 ammo for as long as your hand and wrist can take it and come back for more.

    Regards,

    FlaRon

Thanks for the info guys. I'm off to look at it now. If I do buy it, I'll post some info on it. All I can tell you right now it has a 5" barrel, and the unfluted cylinder as I mentioned previously. Thanks again for the quick comebacks

Well Mick I'd feel naked without my handy seven shooter - But I'll bring it along to Arizonie and we'll just have to get together and BURN some powder.

Well guys, I bought it. It's a 686-6, which the seller claims is only a couple years old with only 100 .357 and 100 .38 rounds down the pipe. Thanks for your help, here's a pic the seller took:

I shot a 686 a couple years ago that a friend had and she wanted to sell it. So I hooked her up with another friend. I had the oportunity to buy it myself and um duh I didnt. He bought it for his wife and him and her and me and my woman went plinking. It had a four inch barrel and I thought it was going to have a lot of muzzle jump etc.I got to shoot a cylinder full out of it and was shocked at how the gun behaved. I have had regrets since and plan to get one later on.They truely are a very nice gun.
