    how old are my guns?

    i'm new here but, would love to know the age of my revolvers. Any help is appreciated- model 629 N8737xx, model 686 AHY59xx, model 396 dch63xx. the 396 is obviously newer, but i'm still curious. thanks,Pete

    Model 629 - 1980-1983
    Model 686 - Although not specific, I would guess 1985-1986
    Model 396 - Again not specific, 2003-2004
    When S&W went to the 3 letter prefix they didn't use them in sequence, nor did they use all of them before moving on to the next.
