    38 M&P Model of 1905 - 4th Change ~ Target

Picked this up today.....First one I've seen in years with target sights and a square butt. It is in the 6660XX SN range...

    Nice snag Giz!
As part of my new disease, revolvers are now put into two catagories, Stags and not stags. Yours does not need stags

    Giz.
My only: 470451 shipped Aug 1924. Way outside of vintage I normally look for. I could tell it was a nice one and bought it. This one needs a home that would more appreciate its age.
Yours by serial appears to be late pre war. Looks good.

    Bill,

Ya gotta love that tall front sight combined with the minimalist rear sight. Line the top of that front sight up with the top of the rear blade......

And you're gonna shoot yourself in the foot!...

Giz, that is a very handsome revolver.

The only 1905 I have so far is a target model: 649954, May of 1935. This one came to me with the original grip adapter on it.

Anachronism Warning! Anachronism Warning! This has a humpback hammer on it now, but it came to me with a standard hammer that I will put back on it if I ever sell it.

Before I changed hammers the other side looked like this:

Stocks number to the gun. Action is OK, but there is a little more rotational play in the cylinder than I am used to. The finish has some obvious wear, but I think it is still 85-90%. (Percentage ratings give me heartburn. I know what really good is, and I know what really bad is. In between I have problems.)

I can't shoot this one worth a damn. I have been spoiled by all my .38/44s, which pretty much hit where they point. I just need to work more with this one to deal with its idiosyncrasies. A wise man one said, "It takes a long time to train a gun."

I've always admired those original grip adapters. I've only examined two sets of N-frame adapters in the past 25 years...never seen a set of K-frames.

    Giz, David and Bill
Those are beautiful Targets you guys have!
This one of mine is a third model, from 1911.
It has its original grips, but wears these old ivories.

Don, that's a nice gun too. Anything with old ivory stocks automatically gets 10 style points, so you are way out in front of the rest of us on that basis alone.

That Alaska map adds a certain something as well.
