Is that an indent in the center of the grip frame (between the wood stocks) in the second picture? It almost looks like scratches in that indent.........

Pictures can be misleading.........what does it look like in person?

    Hey Geezer,

Could the Ser # have been ground down and the indent is how far they had to go to eliminate any visible trace ?

Same with US on back end of grip base causing concave at that point.

FlaRon, looks like the same to me. Never seen one from the factory like that. Need a closer eye-ball.

You two gentleman (above) read my mind..................

Unfortunately, I just don't know enough details about Schofield's to determine which model or change had serial numbers placed in what location(s).

Hopefully one of the resident experts will catch this string and set us all straight.

I hope more info is on the way buffalogal,

You suppose Jesse filed these off after his first bank job? Although it really doesn't look like file marks in person, more like it was rubbed with a nail or something hard?

buffalogal, have you removed the grips and looked for any stampings, numbers/letters, or proof marks of any sort on the grip frame under them?

If/when removing the grips, be very careful not to "Bugger Up" the screwhead.......gunsmiths use a hollow ground screw driver that fits the slot perfectly........if the grip screw isn't overly tight and you have a snug fitting regular screw driver, you may carefully get away without a hollow ground screwdriver on some grip screws......but, please be careful not to let the screwdriver head slip in the screw slot (avoid making a bur)........if the screw is tight, STOP.

BTW, your reference to Jesse (James) brought on a chuckle...........

    Regards,

    Geezer
