Replacment front sight for 292XXX M&P target/K-38 target.

    Dear forum members,

Does anyone know if I can acquire a front sight for a 292000 range prewar M&P .38 Spec. target 6" barrel? I know it would not be too difficult to fabricate one, but I am looking at buying a 70% gun, and I don't want to buy it unless I have a chance of restoring it with an original or fac. replacement part or good copy (Numrich part, etc.). The revolver currently has a piece of sheet metal pinned in the slot where the original should go; it works, but ugly is an understatement.

Thanks for any info. - there are obviously some advanced collectors on this board!

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of a specific one, but if you look hard enough, I'm sure you'll find a replacement (they were prolific).

You mentioned Numrich.........also check Brownells World's Largest Supplier of Gun Parts, Gunsmith Tools & Shooting Accessories - Brownells Midway Shop Shooting Supplies | Reloading | Gunsmithing | Hunting gear — MidwayUSA

GunBroker has a lot of parts listed too Guns for Sale - Online Gun Auction - Buy Guns at GunBroker.com

I even found some sights for a Model 27 on eBay

Good luck, it sounds like a fun project to make that old M&P right again.

    Best Regards,

    Darned it Geezer,
You beat me to the answer again!
You're getting the hang of this I see. Isn't it fun?

Ebay is also a pretty good source for them too. Run a search for "K frame rear sights"

    Geezer,

Thanks a bunch for the info. I hadn't thought of Brownells. Appreciate your advice and the advice from all the forum members. I'm looking forward to posting a few finds here and soaking up some knowledge, as the Standard Catalog, good as it is, only goes so far. I'll post a pic. of the project if we reach a deal in the morning on the M&P target.

    Thanks again!

    -Rob
