Lets try. Describe how the gun is locked, with what? Is it cocked or uncocked?

I'm sorry I dont know the proper words, I'm freaking out about somebody getting hurt. This gun was my grandfather's and it has been stored away for years, so I'm scared it might shoot itself because it has not been taken care of, cleaned, etc.
Took a picture. Hope it gets posted.

Ok, calm down. I don't see a lock, so it's not locked, right?

The gun is cocked and ready to fire.

Stay with me here on the computer.

Take a deep breath, nuxs, and relax......

You can "disarm" that revolver easily, assuming there isn't something wrong with the internal lockworks.

First, MAKE SURE THE REVOLVER IS POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION, so if it does go off, the bullet will not penetrate anything you don't intend it to.

Second, with the weapon in your hand, place your thumb FIRMLY on the hammer; then, GENTLY pull the trigger, your thumb should prevent the hammer from falling, and keeping the trigger depressed, SLOWLY ride the hammer down until it rests. Be VERY careful doing this, because if your finger still has the trigger depressed, and the hammer slips off of your thumb, it WILL fire.

If the trigger will not depress and release the hammer after your thumb is holding it back, you may have another problem.

    Additional note:

Once you have the hammer at rest, push the thumb latch on the left side of the frame forward, open the cylinder, and remove the cartridges. Your revolver will be safe at this point.

Man, I dont know if locked is the proper word. I googled the gun parts, so let me try it this way. The cylinder release (thing facing the camera in the picture above) was pulled down, hence the trigger was pulled inside, I guess it means it is ready to shoot.
I want the "cylinder release" back to where it was; it was facing up, now facing down.

HAMMER is the word! Thank you. I will try it right now.
Let me get it crystal clear tho: i press the hammer, pull it down slowly and it should go back to the top itself, this "disarming" the gun?
