Dan wesson mk 40 .357 supermag problems

I have a Dan Wesson MK 40, .357 supermag, that I have been using
in IHMSA handgun silhouette matches since 1990. Lately, when shooting
in a match, it has been turning the cylinder back, counter-clockwise, sometimes
just one chamber back, and sometimes up to two chambers back. The gun
still locks up tight, and is very accurate. But, this is disconcerting when you
are actually shooting a match. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing
this? I know its old, and has untold thousands of rounds fired through it.
If anyone can tell me what is causing this, would be appreciated.

Sound like the timing is getting bad, worn hand, cylinder bolt worn or the bolt spring getting weak. It definitely has lockup issues that need repair before I'd shoot it again.

Thanks, injunbro, only response I've had. I will check out those areas. Only other
revolver I have for silhouette is a Ruger Superblackhawk, and I'm not too fond of
the beating I take when shooting it in IHMSA competition.

I'm wondering if the timing has deteriorated to the point of not rotating far enough to let the bolt pop up and lock. Does it always happen on the same cylinder hole ??? does it happen only during a slow single action hand cock???
-----------------Top Secret Dan Wesson trick. They can lose their timing if the top sideplate screw starts to get loose.----------------
Get an Allen head driver an make sure its GOOTANTIGHT. This only applies to the small frame guns that have a sideplate . I don't know if your super max is large or small frame.

Needsmostuff, I have figured this baby out! The tip of the hand is worn down, and is letting
the cylinder roll backwards during recoil. This doesnt happen every time I shoot it, but enough
that it's gettin on my nerves. I ordered another hand from Numrich gun parts, and will install
it just as soon as it arrives.

A new hand might be slightly oversize & need fitting. Remember when stoning it to fit it's easier to remove metal than to put it back. Just go slow & don't change any angles.
