Not a big fan of "Combat Weapons".......for the money, I'd rather have a nice SXS 20 ga. for bird hunting. But, I've got (2) shotguns, (2) .30 caliber rifles, and (2) .22 rifles.....seems like enough to keep me shootin' and satisfied. I've also got (4) S&W revolvers........or, until they "pry them from my cold, dead hands"! Didn't somebody say that before???? ;) Bob

I'm really interested in seeing one of these guns. The ability to turn it into three different butt stock configurations is neat, or the gun can be fired without a rear stock ~ pistol style. Cleaning looks easier, interchangeable bolts and barrels without changing out the entire upper is another plus.

Cool gun..

This is the Magpul "Masda" rifle and it's being developed right here in Maine by Remington / Cerberus at their Bushmaster Subsidiary.

My people inside tell me to steer clear until they get it "fixed and running right....."

The only new guns that I've bought are.... the Ithaca M-37....about 30 years ago.......after 40 years of developement! The Walther P22 about 8 years ago, and the Savage Mark I bolt .22......last year. I just don't trust the new-fangled things!!!! Bob

The Masada has been around in prototype and development since late 2006. Three and a half years later it still has teething problems.

In general design execution it reminds me of another "Modern Marvel" of the firearms world, the 5.57 x28 FN PS90 Carbine, also something less than a complete commercial success.

As much respect as I have for Magpul and Bushmaster, the jury's still out on the Masada as far as I'm concerned. I was frankly quite surprised to see that normally very conservative Remington Arms Co. allowed their name to be put upon this monstrosity.

I suppose that Remington just finally decided to join the other manufacturers, and produce a "Combat Rifle". Everybody else is making "Big Bucks" producing these things.

Drew, Though I'm not particularly "turned on" by the trend towards modern military rifles (AR style), that SOCOM that you have....... sure looks interesting!!!! Perhaps it's the more conventional styling (like an M-14), but........it sure looks like a winner to me!!!! ;) Although, I have no good use for one......and can't afford one, anyway. kfjdrfirii Bob

Bob, you mean this one?

Yeah, I love it too..... It's very Old School with a little bit of Rock-n-Roll. Kinda like me.

Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!! ;) I don't mind the black plastic stock. In a conventional stock, it lightens the rifle. ....and will take lots of abuse, like a military rifle should! I love my Savage Mk I bolt action .22! The stock is cheap black plastic, but I would prefer one of better quality on a serious rifle. I was thinking about one for my M-50 Mauser .30-06, but it will remain as is. Why spend money on a rifle for range use? Tyhe wooden stock is OK for my purposes.

Drew, how much does that SOCOM weigh? Weight is the main reason I don't like military rifles. Who wants to lug around 11-12 lbs??? My Mauser weighs in at 8 1/2lbs. with scope. That weight is good to have with the .30-06. Otherwise .......I'd end up on my butt, with a long , 1" dia., cylindrical bump down my forehead!!!!  Bob
