Well I bought a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW40V today at Academy Sport & Outdoor.

I took it straight to the range (I didn't even clean it  - shame on me  )

Well it shot well, my only complaint is a very very hard trigger pull.

Absolutely not one problem - I only had 50 shells with me (bought with the gun).

First .40 I've owned, does anyone know the shooting differences between a .45 & a .40?

Anyone know how to lighten this trigger? kfjdrfirii

40's are a bit "snappier" than the 45 ACP.

Also, 45 ACP's tend to "torque" a little bit to the left when they recoil. I have not really noticed this in the smaller calibers.

I've tried several things to improve the trigger on my SW9VE. I would recommend removing the sear and polishing it. The sear on my Sigma had an unreasonable amount of tool marks on it. I had a Wolf 3.5lb striker spring in it for about 450 rounds. It never failed to fire, but it barely indented the primers so light strikes were a concern and I replaced it with the factory striker spring. I've put over 1000 rounds through mine and it has been perfectly reliable, but the accuracy is less than good. At ranges over 10 yards the groups look more like a shotgun pattern. I attribute this solely to the trigger. I have other single action and DA/SA handguns that I can shoot much better. Dry fire the heck out of it and you can probably wear in the gun enough and condition yourself to shoot it well. Mine is getting traded in towards an M&P 9 or a 5906. Good luck.

my sw40f has a much better trigger than the v series, but still a hard pull. i actually prefer it that way, because as with the 40v and 9ve, this is not a target gun, but a good defensive weapon, and when it matters, you will have trained with that trigger,so it will not be an issue... that of course, is my opinion, and my opinion only...

Bought a Sigma as well- 9mm, cheaper ammo & couldn't afford the M&P. Took the gun to the range and found the gun shooting high and right at both 7 & 15 yards. I was able to settle on target center toward the end of the 150 round session, but still had a few shots going high and right.

Trained to carry .38 for security work and do not have high & right shots with it.

I'm thinking trigger weight; any comments? Lastly, I too have contacted Frank in warranty. I anticipate sending the gun to Texas.

I just traded in my 40 Sigma for an M&P40c today. I had no issues with the sigma really, except that damnable heavy trigger pull. Just for kicks, I had the gunsmith measure the pull on both. the Sigma was 11 lbs, the M&P is 6. I agree when shak says the heavy pull reduces accuracy. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have ponied up the extra money and bought the M&P the first time.
Oddly enough though, my wife's SW9VE's pull isn't as bad as my .40's was.

The hated trigger pull of the 9 and 40VE. Wolf Springs offers a lighter striker spring and I have good luck with them. On my 40 VE, I was able to make the trigger pull reduce to about 7 lbs. I will be changing out the spring on my recently purchased 9 VE as well. A $3.00 part does wonders.
Stevo, the M&P is a more accurate firearm than the Sigma, but the Wolf Striker Spring give the VE a much closer comparison.

i actually like the trigger...come on, let's face it...it's a safety issue and furthermore, is a self defense weapon for the average people, not a LE weapon. Also, I don't think it's meant to be a range gun although over time i've heard you either get used to it or it frees up some
