Strange things in the woods

Any one ever see any huge foot prints in the woods?Boulders the size of washing machines rolling down the mountain out of the pitch black. Trees being shaken, pieces of dead fall the size of base ball bats tumbling out of the darkness. Five foot tall fur trees pulled out of the ground with snapped roots thrown dirt and all? Loud grunting and slurping sounds and wiffs of stench like rotten garbage, Two large creatures moving above you breaking sticks crashing around in the darkness ????
Any one think there might be something to legends ?

I keep an open mind, while looking for reasonable answers. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be any reasonable answers. I've walked out of the woods once or twice myself with my hair standing on end and my nerves on edge, but not from events like you describe. Whatever you are referring to sound very interesting.

Onenut58, just remember in this digital age a pic or recording isn't good enough. Science needs a body dragged in. I think that is why a hunter has never shot a Bigfoot yet, they are almost always sure it's a person screwing around. Be safe. James

Onenut Year before last I was hunting elk in the Oregon coastal range. And what I saw at the beginning of dusk will stay with me for the rest of my life. It only stood about 5.8 but it looked huge. Whatever it was it was totally silent. Now I've seen lots of bear and it was no bear. It did not show any interest in me what so ever.It just disappeared as fast as it appeared.

Cpierce I believe you. I have never seen any thing like that before. But I know what the woods sound like at night and it was a black moonless night. We were camped on a gravel and sand bar at the base of a cliff where a small river ran down through old lava flow. The river had worn the lava down to verticle cliffs on each side that were about 100 feet high.Once you enter the canyon miles up river unless you want to do some serious rock climbing you dont leave the river until it ends up opening up into a larger valley 2 days hike. The river runs down over many water falls and drops into pools. Some places the water is to deep to wade and you have to scale along the cliffs to get past. It is full of cutthroat trout and a very fun place to hike through.Above the cliffs the mountian side rise on up into timber on both sides of the river.
Like many places I have been to you can only get through during late summer when the water is at its lowest. That evening we built a fire right next to the face of the cliff and chucked our sleeping bags down on the sand on a sand bar about 20 feet wide.
we cooked some fish ate talked a while and went to sleep.Bill my friend woke me up shaking me hard. I snapped to thinking a bear had come around.Bill had a little mag light in his hand and his 41 magnum out and he was shinning it up the cliff and I could hear heavy breathing and grunting and ask Bill whatthe hell is that. He looked at me like what do you think it is but said nothing. I sleep in my clothes and boots in the woods and had a model 27 out and my flashlight shining it up the cliff. But we couldnt see any thing.
Then we seen some thing flying over the edge of the cliff and both ran to the edge of the creek. It was a live fur tree about five or six feet tall pulled out of the ground and chucked over the side. Then we heard cracking and and grunting and sticks three inches thick and three feet long came flying at the fire that was nothing but coals at the time.we still tried to shine our lights to see but you could not see over the lip of the cliff. When we heard something crashing down from above the cliff a ways and we backed into the river and out of the black came a boulder bigger than the two of us could have picked up and crashed down three feet to the left of Bills sleeping bag and plopped into the sand.
I told Bill turn off your flash light and I did the same and the sticks kept flying over the cliff as well as more trees.I kept getting wiffs of garbage and Bill smelled it to and the slurping sounds were like some one with a mouth full of slobber and heavy breathing like some one out of wind only it all eccoed in the rock and was loud.We were waist deep in water and had moved about 100 feet down stream and the sticks kept flying. It went quiet a couple times and started up again and all told it was maybe 45 minutes to a hour this went on.
I remember freeezing in the cold water it gets cold at night even in summer in the mountians and we were standing in cold water.
we could here two of them and finaly they stopped and every thing went dead silent. You have to understand this was in the pitch black you could not see your hand in front of your face.
We moved up under a over hang in the cliff face and sat and waited for day light. We both knew what had done it and talked about what to do about it.We both agreed there were two of them and one was up on the hill side further than the other. But they moved around busting up logs to throw at us.

At daylight we had dirt and 10 green trees with dirt still in the roots all over and 36 pieces of dead fall laying all around and on our sleeping bags. The boulder was about three feet around and we both tried to roll it and could not even budge one side of it.
We decided to go up above and see what it looked like. But we had to either go out from where we came in or out the way we were headed.
We decided to go back up stream and it took us most of the day going as hard as we could. Once we were out we moved along pretty good down stream above the canyon.About a hour before dark we finaly found where they were and tracks and a feeling of evil forboding came over me when the tracks proved to me what I already knew and Bill said I think we should get out of here. I said Bill how the hell we gonna do that in the dark. He said well at least lets head further down stream. So we took off moving along as fast as we could and when dark hit we were maybe 3 miles down stream. We sat down at the base of a tree and took off our packs and decided not to make a camp or fire.We both tried to sleep in shifts one awake one asleep but niether of us slept and the night passed with out incident.
As soon as it got light enough we were up and moving and reached my pickup just before dark.We drove into avery Idaho only a few miles away and had a few beers and told our story. No one was suprised or impressed and the old guy at the bar told us to leave well enough alone and dont try to track them or we would end up being tracked.
We slept in my truck that night and at day light we headed back up the road that ran a mile or so from the canyon up stream to get bills pickup where we left it up past the cliffs and had dropped into the canyon on our two day walk through the canyon.
We found one spot where one had crossed the dirt road heading up hill deep into the woods and another spot where he had circled back and was headed right back where he had left from.
Even though we had got some sleep we were exhausted and standing beside our trucks talking we both could feel the creeps and decided to go home and come back another time better suplied and better armed.
We went back a number of times over the years and even camped on the same sand bar and talked to others who had made the hike and no one ever seen or heard any thing like it again that we know of.

You talking about quarter cherokee? He goes running around in a gorilla suit where I am from and one of three things is gonna happen. He is gonna get shot by a out of stater thinking he is a bear or if a local sees him he is gonna get chased down and forced to share his booze. Or number three he goes way back in the deep woods where no body is maybe a big ole sasquach female will take a likeing to him and take him home to moma or worse yet. He may get mistaken for a female being small and end up attracting a male saquach.

Aussie 44 I understand that I dont have very good spelling or grammer. But realy think most people with a average IQ and reading comprehension can read and understand when I make a post.
But I am sending you a link to have a look at how I seen a tree flying over the side.Your reading comprehension can be improved by reading books and such. But some one with problems with reading comprehension can also get by in this world by going back over and re-reading something again so you take in what you missed the first time
Steering clear of that weed and booze helps a lot to like you say.But any way here is the link to answer your question.

You're good at telling a tale, Onenut! Felt like I was standing in the water with you!

Lots of things spook me at night in the woods, and they usually end up to be crazy 2-legged human beings. Over the years, I've heard strange things at a distance and snuck off to check 'em out - one time it was a klan gathering, and another was a huge group of naked devil worshipers dancing around a fire. Both those times, we hid and stuck around for a good look-see. Very entertaining! :)

No need to sound so innocent, Drew. I told you them boys was gonna tell on us. That's the last time I'll ever brew up a vat of Sotol for you - ever! And I told you to quit rippin' up them trees, but nooooo. Now look what you've done. They're gonna get those Earth Day weenies after us.

Say, that wouldn't have been down near Bruneau Canyon, would it? If not, nevermind. And no, I don't dress up in no gorilla suit. What you seen was my scalp collection.

You sure are big on the personal attacks when anyone makes a joke around here. Seriously, when you post a tale such as this, expect some teasing. Lighten up already.

I wasn't the Sotol, it was the kerosene, Laotian mustard and cayenne pepper you started it with..... you know that stuff makes me do my Alex Baldwin imitation ..... last time I go button picking with you, you crazy bastid. And next time you scalp any of those Greenies would you please rinse the Patchouli Oil out of their matted hair before hang them on my lodge pole? Raoul the Pool Boy keeps getting the wrong idea.....
