After spending a lot of time browsing on this forum recently - and learning a ton - I finally decided to go ahead and join. I am a former police officer (Metropolitan Police in DC) who really used to enjoy shooting, but I got away from it when I left law enforcement and went into business in the early 90's. The only handgun I have owned since was a S&W Model 60 .38 that was my old backup gun, and unfortunately it has been sitting in a drawer in my nightstand for too long. Recently though my father gave me the S&W Model 37 Airweight (purchased new and given to him by my grandfather) that he carried for 20+ years as a detective with Fairfax County PD in northern Virginia, so it was a really special gift to me. Knowing how much it meant to him, and how those few small nicks and the holster wear came to be....I wouldn't trade it for any gun around.

For whatever reason, receiving that gun seems to have really rekindled my interest in revolvers and shooting and I have a feeling I will be adding to my modest S&W 'collection' soon. I am visiting a local range next weekend to shoot for the first time in a long while, and think I am going to go ahead and and take the class later this month to get my CCP. I really appreciate all the expertise I have been able to take advantage of on this forum over the past few weeks and hope to continue to be able to learn here.


Any chance that someone can help me with the approximate age of my revolvers? Thanks in advance!


S&W Model 37 is blue finish, 1 7/8" barrel, round butt, is stamped "MOD 37" (no dash) and has a serial # of 775JXX

S&W Model 60 is stainless, 1 7/8" barrel, round butt, is stamped "MOD 60" (no dash) and has a serial # of R1985XX
