I thought you couldn't ship ammo via USPS........

A uh, buddy of mine, was just checking the status on his order of some ammo that was being shipped by UPS.

Noticed that is was tendered to the local post office this morning and scheduled for delivery today.

I thought under no circumstances was live ammunition to be shipped through the post office.

Anybody ever hear of such a thing?

I wouldn't want to be the guy shipping live ammo via the U S Post Office.
UPS requires a special 'small arms' ammunition sticker and permit, and it isn't cheap.
Trying to ship cartridges parcel post is a recipe for disaster.

Just to clarify, the shipping status on the UPS website states that it was shipped UPS all the way until it made it to the local city. At that point it was tendered to USPS.

My buddy says that he ordered from Midway.

Who'd get dinged for this? I'd imagine it would be UPS. They were the ones who handed it off to USPS.

I have had a few packages done this way, never ammo though! It is a deal UPS and USPS have to deliver to homes.

The ammo thing may get someone in trouble though!

Whoever transferred the ammo from UPS to US Postal Service can get in one heck of a lot of trouble if they get turned in. Federal Offense. Penalties are extreme and start at $10,000, plus jail time if convicted.
Shipping ammo thru UPS or FedEx is a breeze. Put a note on the box that says ORM-D In a black box and write "Cartridges, Small Arms" just below it. (I bought pre-printed stickers to save me from the hassle.) Go to UPS and pay to ship it. You'll be required to pay $4.00 extra for a required adult signature on top of the package weight and that's it. I've shipped thousands of dollars and hundreds of pounds of ammo all across the country, and there's nothing to it.
There is no Hazmat fee to be paid for shipping loaded ammo, no matter what the clerk at the counter says.

Hazmat only applies for primers the are seperate from loaded ammo.
Ammo can't be shipped US Postal Service under any condition and witout regard to who the shipper is. Even the holder of an FFL license can't ship ammo thru the USPS.
Ammo and firearms of any kind can't be shipped together either.

If anybody know's they are going to be shipping ammo and would like a few stickers I'll be happy to send you some.
LeMat, I forgot I need to send you some. i'll get them out with the check Right away.
Teach them the truth, and let them sort thru the cobwebs of liberalism that have infested their minds.

When they come for your guns, give them the ammo first!

    Thanks GQ!

What I'm fguring, is that once the ammo made it here, it's not "technicall" being shipped anymore, just "delivered" by USPS.

Anyway, my buddy finally got his 125gr NyClads and life is good.
