    My buddy is a trip

Yesterday two buddies and I stopped into a local greasy spoon for lunch. It's not that bad a place but not real nice either. We were sitting in a booth. A family was in the next booth. A young family eating lunch, with three little kids. One of the kids a little girl. Maybe two or three years old. She was a little cutie. She was standing in the booth and kept checking me out. That was because I was facing her and was in her line of sight. She would smile and when I ate my food she would eat.

Anyway when the father of the little girl told her. He told her to sit down. The guy back handed the little girl in the back. It was a pretty good smack you could hear the loud thump as he struck that kid in the back. I said to my bud look at that pos smacking that kid like that. Just after I said that the guy gets up to go to the bathroom. One of my buds jumped up and followed the guy into the bathroom.

My bud is a big dumb old jar head he was a E-9 top Sargent He is not dumb I just tell him he is. When they came out of the bathroom the guy was being real nice to my bud. I had to laugh and asked my bud what did you do now. He said I laid some leadership on that guy. No telling what that entailed. My bud is big and is a real red neck. And he is as tough as they come. He cracks me up. When the guy sat down he was real nice with his family.

When they were in the bathroom. I could hear my bud yelling look here sunny. When you here that sunny stuff from him. He is ready to throw some hands. When he was on active duty. Several times I watched him dress down a few marines. And I would not want to be on the receiving end of his antics. Anyway I glad he talked with that guy. He beat me to it. I was just about ready to say something to the guy. Damn I do not like to see anyone abusing small children.

    You're preaching to the choir, Jim -- I'm with you 100% . . .

I was Trustee Chair at our church for a couple of years, and I worked closely with the Council on implementing the Safe Sanctuary Policy -- seeing to the total safety of the little guys while they are at church -- it included having a window in every door (except bathrooms) so nothing could go on in the room behind closed doors . . .

A select few who worked closely with the children & youth (C & Y) were investigated and cleared as having no negative history, and simply for the sake of appearances, I insisted in being cleared, also -- I love the kids, but they can wear you out in a hurry, especially when you have wore out as many calendars as I have . . .

At our church, we lean heavily toward programs for the C & Y, for we recognize that they are the future of the church.

If I ever witnessed an act of brutality against a kid, I know without a doubt that I would wind up in jail . . .

Would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the bathroom when this was going on. I have no use and zero tolerance for people that treat children that way.

Ah, nothing like the "appearance" of a potential "wall-to-wall" counseling to enlighten.

The only problem is that the abuser will go off on the child when in private and it is usually much worse because there's no one to step in and stop them.

I never hit my children or any other child. When my kids were little my wife took care of the discipline. Sometimes she gave them a spanking. When both my kids were little and in diapers. One day I was babysitting them They drove me nuts. They could tag team you and you would have to run all over the place to deal with them. One would go one way the other one the other way. I grabbed a small plastic fly swatter. That thing was so flimsy you could not even kill a fly with it.

I told both of them to come into the kitchen. I was trying my best to get their attention. I was talking with them. Then I told them no wonder your momma goes nuts with you two. I told them to turn around because they were going to get a spanking. They both were standing in front of me. I was at the kitchen table sitting in a chair. I was not going to hit them but they didn't know that. I made them stand their for a couple minutes,

Our daughter was a funny kid. She turned around and asked me what was taking so long. I barked at her to turn around. I told her I'm trying to figure out how many times I'm going to hit you with this fly swatter. I grabbed a pen and paper and was adding up which one should get more swats with the fly swatter.. Our Son which is a year older. Said some nonsense. So I took the fly swatter and popped him in the butt with the fly swatter. All did was just flick my wrist and it did not even hurt. Now our daughter hears that pop and starts crying. I told her turn around you are next.

She throws a big fit and I had all I could do not to laugh. So I popped her in the butt. She turns around and said to me. Daddy is mean I told her you better believe it.
i said keep it up. And I just may kick your a$$. It was really funny. This was just before Christmas. In my family we celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve. That was when we let all the kids open gifts and have a big family dinner. My wife wanted to take both of them to mid night mass at church. I told my wife that's not a wise idea.

I said the men folk will stay home and babysit. That was how it always worked out when I was a kid. My wife was not having any of that. We all went to church. Our daughter did not like staying in one place very long. Hey she was a baby kids get antsy. She started throwing a fit in church A big tantrum. I had to take her home. I told her you are going to get it when we get home. Now she starts screaming My Daddy is mean he is going to beat my a$$.

This cracked me up. I had to laugh and now I was teasing her. My wife was in church turning red from embarrassment. Half the church was staring at us. Our daughter screamed all that BS at the top of her little lungs. I never did anything to her for that. I was actually grateful she did that. Because next time Christmas mass rolled around. All the daddy's stayed home and were the babysitters.

When our son was little (about 5) he committed some 'crime' or other that his Mom decided deserved a spanking so I told him to turn around & bend over. Then I looked as mean as I knew how to and wound up like a I was going to hit a homer... and clapped my hands loudly but didn't touch him. He let out a scream and grabbed his backside like he'd been kick by a horse for about 5 seconds and then this bewildered look came over his face. He went to his room & came out later & told Mom "Daddy spanks hard!" (he didn't know she'd seen it all & was laughing the whole time). "Better not act up again or he might really get mad," she said w/ a straight face. His eyes bulged. For years he was afraid to act up & get Dad mad for fear what a real spanking would be like.
