    New Forum-wide Rule

    Ladies and gents,

For a long time, this forum has prided itself on being one of the friendliest, if not the friendliest, forum around. And for the most part, we still are. However, the other mods and I have noticed a certain amount of rudeness and bickering has been going on. Maybe it's because of the influx of newer members, and the forum has grown. Or, maybe it's just that not everyone gets along with everyone else. Regardless, we've had some complaints lately about this and we've decided to institute a new program to deal with it.

Starting immediately, if someone (let's say person A) is rude or offensive, that person will receive a two week suspension. If someone else (let's say person B) in turn retalliates to person A, then person B will also get a two week suspension.

If person A or B does it again at a later time, that person will get a one month suspension. If it happens a third time, that person will be banned.

I wish we didn't have to have rules like this, I really do. But the fact of the matter is that just one person can, and does, ruin it for others. The vast majority of members will never have to worry about this new rule, and I hope it never has to be enforced. But, the rudeness and bickering will no longer be dealt with by just closing a thread.

Sorry to say, this appears to be a needed stricture. 'Sorry' because I am one of those who has noticed an increase in nastiness.

OTOH, I hope this does not mean that any of us are precluded from disagreeing with anyone else. It can be done, after all, without resorting to ad hominem attacks.

That rule should have been put in a long time ago.

Also have noted the change in tone. It is a necessary tool and one that I would trust the Moderators to use, as needed.

It seems to me that a rude person needs to be responded to....BEFORE the moderaters take any kind of action. Then, they jump in. They say nothing to the original rude poster.....unless there is a response by the targeted peerson. They just let it slide by. Apparently......some people are allowed to be rude.....just depends on who you are. The moderators make excuses, (such as alcohol consumption) for some obnoxious people. Bob

I am new to this forum, but frequent a few others....a Ruger forum, and a traditional archery forum. Blatant rudeness ruins threads and spoils communication quickly.

I'm assuming we can have reasonable and polite debate? I'm betting we are talking about name calling and otherwise personal attacks?

    Absolutely!

That's not how we're going to handle it, Bob. If someone is being rude, just walk away.
    Leighton and onenut58 like this.

Debate away and have fun! Yes, this rule is about personal attack, name calling, insults and such.
    U. S. debt explained...Let's say, you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood......and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceiling.
What do you think you should do?
Raise the ceiling or pump out the crap?

Walk away, or if you reply do not stoop to a personal attack and you will be fine.

Then alert us, and other members here are encouraged to let us know about personal attacks. I know that when I have seen such as this I address all who are getting involved.

I have seen many times in the past and been the victim a few times and relate 100 percent to what Bob says. But this new rule I think is good. It stops the bullies and gives a member a alternative to let the moderator handle it.Where as before you just had to take it and eat it and the bully would do it again any time he felt like it.Bullies are in all forums and chats and thats why there has to be rules to keep them in check.
Most people that dont like this rule have never been followed around from thread to thread by bullies or been atrtacked and called names and had to suck it up and put up with it or not come in here.
I was unemployed when i joined this site and spent a lot of time in here way more than the average person does and I seen many attacks that just made me sick and when I noticed the same bullies doing it over and over and getting away with it and also the excuses Bob mentioned as to being drunk or a member who has been here a long time etc.I could see the old rules were useless and hurt the forum as a whole.
I fully understand jumping back in a bullies face before because you had no alternative but take it. But this new rule gives every one a alternative and a little self control of the natural instinct to defend your self will let the bully hang himself.
I spent enough time in here to know all the old bullies and dont worry about any new ones because of this rule Just let them dance and watch the moderators get them is my opinion. A little restraint on the victims part will truly pay off in the long run
And dont be making fun of Carls jap bike and Wendys collection of beater guns.Har har
