    I messed up! Mauser safety

After mounting a Tasco scope on my Sears M-50 .30-06, a year ago, I just took it out this afternoon, and discoverded that ......THE RINGS ARE TOO LOW!!!! It interfers with the Mauser safety lever. Can't call it a safety.....because you can't put it on 'safe'. Ain't that a kick in the *****!!!!! Guess I'll just have to take it off, and use the iron sights.....that I can't see. Bob

Hey guys, I'm not sure how to do it....but can I use the blue S&W symbol as my avatar? I'm tired of a blank space.....no matter how symbolic it may be!

Get some taller rings. Most manufactureres have three heights. If the tallest rings don't work, then you can go to one of the see through mounts where you can look through at the metallic sights beneath the scope. You might also look at some different low scope safetys or swap to a trigger with a built in safety..

When I was still in the custom rifle building business I found 2 easy solutions to this problem:
    A. Buy a scope safety, my last Gun Parts Corp. catalogue lists them for $4.95. The average monkey can install one in 5 minutes w/ no modifications to the rifle.
    B. Buy taller rings.

Since I hardly use it, anyway.......I may just take the scope off, and use the iron sights. It's more of a rifle.......just to have....... in case those Radical Muslims ever attack this area. Bob

Well, I finally took the trigger lock off....and tried the darned thing! I worked the bolt, cocked the trigger, put the safety lever up as far as it would go....up against the scope tube....and pulled the trigger. No click!!! It works....no need to take the scope off!!!!! It's about 10 degrees from verticle, but the safety works. Guess it always pays to try it out.....before I do something I will later regret. (Taking off the scope.) I'm good to go !!!! Bob
