    T/C Contender Carbine

Anyone have a single shot 22?
I put this gun together about 8 years ago. I bought the action used then ordered a barrel. I also ordered the wood thru T/C.

2 weeks ago, I redone the wood. I found it too heavy and the thumb hole cut was too shallow. I drilled out the stock as deep as possible to lighten it up. I reshaped the thumb hole to something I liked better. I restained it and put a nice oil finish on it. I also but another buttplate on it as I destroyed the other one. I just couldn't get the glue off the original as it was a 2 piece design.

I'll see if it shoots better someday as I also free floated the forearm before I refinished it.
    Here are the pictures.

I like the thumb hole stock.

Nicely done. The subtle grain patterns on that stock are beautiful to this ol' lumberman's eyes. Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

    Thanks for the flowers!

So no one but me shoots contenders huh?

Oh, I dug out the "before" picture. So you can see it's a little bit altered.

Just took my first couple shots out of one last weekend. My best friend bought a G2 last month and has barrels for .22 RF and 6.8 rem. I had challenged him earlier this year to hunt Pa whitetails with a pistol - I was thinking of my 28-2 vs his Ruger Blackhawk but he went out and got the G2! I guess I should have specified REVOLVERS. It's all in fun though.
We were very impressed with the accuracy of the 6.8 Rem., but I told him NO BUTT STOCK, and if he puts a sling on it to carry then it's a carbine, butt stock or not!

    Re: T/C Contender Carbine

I have 2 contenders, one is a stainless pistol and the other the Carbine above. I have 9 different pistol barrels for the Contender pistol and honestly, of all the guns I own, the Contender pistol works the hardest. No idea how many shots went thru it's barrels but they are bought down to the range most often.

One point I prefer is the ease of cleaning them. Being like a bolt action, there are few parts and brushing only 1 tube has advantages, as I don't enjoy cleaning guns all night!

Another point which makes them my favorite firearm is their flexibility. If your not in the mood for a 22, grab another barrel. Swapping barrels takes a minute to do, basically, you push out the pin that holds the barrel on, and choose another barrel more to what's on your mind.

And with ammo prices going thru the roof, you could plink all day because this gun is a single shot!

Here is the other, mixed with other 22's I currently own.

Not a Contender, not 22 rimfire, but a T/C Encore in 22-250, with a knife that is about the same size. It launches a Sierra 52 gr HPBT at close to 3,700 FPS sub MOA, and factory 40 gr stuff at over 4,000 FPS MOA. The 'knife' does 'Watermelon Duty' a couple times a year

The stock was unfinished from Gunstocks Inc., the scope is a Leupold VX-II 6-18X40 AO fine duplex with sun shade
