Finding ammo for a Mauser 71/84

I was wondering if anyone still makes ammunition or at least the reloading supplies for the 11mm Mauser ammo for the Mauser 71/84 rifles?

That as a concern of mine, when I started looking for a sporterized Mauser. So, I avoided the issue by getting a Mauser actioned
JC Higgins M-50 in good old .30-06. Ammo is easy to find and fairly cheap, too!!!! I have to use factory stuff.......I don't reload. Got a couple boxes at DICK'S Sporting Goods during a sale for
$12.50/box (20) last week. ($10 rebate from Winchester.) Bob

NORMA generally makes ammo that is obsolete. Try them. But, your best bet is.....to load your own!!! Just read a post on the Forum, by someone who likes to do this sort of thing. Maybe he (and other reloaders) will chime in shortly, with some useful advice! I realize that, what I posted about .30-06 doesn't help......at all, for you.

There are many "11mm Mauser" rounds.

The correct cartridge for the 71/84 is the 11 x 60R.

I just checked and Old Western Scrounger doesn't have it.

    Good Luck.

+1 on Buffalo Arms. Dave Guillo is a real Gentleman. I puchased several exotic "Old Timey" sights from him with satisfaction.

Don't confuse the "43 Mauser" with the "43 Spanish"...

Somewhere in my pile of magazines is an article by Ross Seyfried on handloading for the M71/84. The reloading supplies are available but I believe he cast his own lead for the project. I know he loaded a paper patched bullet over black powder but he may have had a recipe for the smokeless stuff. I will try to track down the info for you. It was in either "Handloader" or "Rifle" magazine. He only wrote for them for a short while so I should be able to find it sooner rather than later.

Bobw, NOT AT ALL!!!! I wish I knew to what you are refering.....so I could explain my position, or your misinterprepetation of what I said. I tend to be conservative, and often vote the Independent ticket......so your comment hits me as strange..... Bob

    Bob,
I thought the same thing until you posted the second time...

At first it appeared that you were telling D.L. that he should quit fooling with obsolete 11mm Mausers and get a .30-'06! Your 2nd post clarified that you realized you were being no help. Mebbe he didn't read that 2nd post of yours!

A few of us around here love to fool with strange and obsolete cartridges. That sometimes-frustrating endeavor is my all-time favorite aspect of handloading!

xtm, You are right. I was not boasting in any way, only relating my particular reasoning on the issue of cartridges for the Mauser. (How that makes me a Democrat.......I don't know. ) If you read the first line of that post, I don't know how you could think otherwise.

Anyway.....what the hell was Bobw saying at the end of his post???? I reread it.........it's stupid, IMHO. Doesn't even make any sense.
