Here's an old homemade utility knife that's been in the family for 100 years or so. My Pop remembers seeing it in a drawer when he was a little fella - and he's 95. It has an interesting scimitar-shape blade. I still use it for slicing open fertilizer bags and stuff like that.

xtimberman, that old utility knife has great "appeal" and "character"...........and an heirloom, to boot.........Good One......!

Here's one that I fashioned out of a leaf spring when, back when I was a teenager.......it's been following me around for all these years.........done "free hand" on a big grinder, then many many hours of hand filing.............chuckle........maybe someday I'll get around to finishing it...........LOL

My top knife with the sheath is a Broker and the bottom one is a Silver Stag. I have a Case double knife that has seen better days. I will post it later.

WWll Knife And Story Behind It:
My Father-in-law, (still living & in his upper 80's), was a third generation "only child - only son". He left his first college year of medical school (without his parents knowledge or permission) and joined the Army when WWll started. He was later assigned as a Medic (Cpl.) and participated in the invasion of Luzon and saw his share of action. Later, Gen. Douglas MacArthur ordered the capture of "Ipo Dam" from the Japanese, because it provided 1/2 the water supply for Manila and had to capture it before it was destroyed. It was defended by over 9,000 hardened Japanese soldiers. My Father-in law said they finally ended up lowering anti-aircraft artillery and firing directly into the Japanese, captured the Dam intact, and counted "countless" of dead Japanese after the battle. (over 4,000 Japanese soldiers were killed during the battle). Now we get to the story of this knife:
In 1945 he was sent to a staging area to prepare for the invasion of Japan. Supplies and gear being issued to the troops were of all types you could ever imagine. He was issued this as his "knife" for the invasion of Japan. As we all now know, the atomic bomb was used & the war ended without the invasion of Japan. Dad didn't get back to the U.S until 1946 on a troop transport. This knife was one of the things he brought back. He returned to medical school, later became a great surgeon, and practiced well over 40 years. When I was helping him move to the retirement home they had built, this knife was discovered in a trunk in the basement and he told me this story and asked if I wanted it. I am saving it for one of his Great Grandsons, along with documentation and photos. God Bless The USA.

I just got this Schrade Classic Custom yesterday...........I found it on eBay.........chuckle

The handle is channel work with various stone inlays and the blades have file work..........I just wish my camera could do better close-ups.

This Hoppalong Cassidy knife (below) is a newly acquired antique, and an exact facsimile of one that was given to me by my Dad when I was a kid (the original was lost many years ago). If I recall correctly, he had it for quite awhile and it was well used before he gave it to me (my memory about it is kinda vague because I was just a child at the time). I recently got this one with the express purpose of sending it to Dad with a note asking, "Remember This?". Hopefully, he'll be delighted........
