My son's first airplane, might not fit in the car

My 2 1/2 year old son loves airplanes, so today he got more than he could have asked for. This old Skywarrior is outside the Fulton County Airport in NY and you can only imagine what this is like for the little guy. Oddly enough, this Skywarrior is one of two XAD3-1's built with Westinhouse J40 turbojets and had no tail guns in the aft turret. It first flew in 1952.

    David,

The A3-D was still in flying inventory when I was active. Because of the difficulty in bailing-out of this plane, the grim flight deck humor of the day referred to the three crew A3-D as an acronym meaning All 3 Dead...

I also was active in the Navy when the Skywarriors were around. Aboard ship they were called the WHALE Great aircraft I would love to own one. Just so I could whizz on it every morning. If I can find some old pic's of the A3 I'll post a couple. Some of them are pretty cool with the drag chute open while landing on a air base.

Here's a pic taken through the canopy. The A3 tailed by two A4's scooters and a A-6 prowler We on are our way home. The A3 top right. NAVAIR you gotta love it. I know I did. If I can find some better pic's I'll post them. This old stuff (pic's) are buried in boxes around my home. One day I'll sort these old pic's out.

Damn, I thought I was a "good dad" buying my kid a Lamborghini, then you one up me! I will have to see if there are any Migs on E bay.

One of the guys I flew with was an A-3 pilot - His brag was when he flew the A-3 it was the fastest sub-sonic aircraft in the Navy inventory.

There were still a few 'Whales' flying when I was chipping paint, seems just like yesterday!

Brings back fond memories of my son, he was always interested in aviation, especially military. Can't begin to tell you the number of airshows and aviation museums we visited over the years. Must have paid off, today he is a pilot in the USAF/ANG, could not be prouder. Enjoy the time now, it goes by faster than you know, trust me.

Between the A3 and the RA5C Vigilantes the carriers used to have some good sized planes on them. I found this a few weeks ago, from my welcome aboard indoc. The A3 is a nice site on the deck.
