    Lets see those challenge coins

Challenge coins have always fascinated me, but I was never in the service but recently one of the guys at work had some made up for our department. So how many here have a challenge coin of their own for either their time in the service or law enforcement?

"No people in the world ever did achieve their freedom by goody-goody talk and moral suasion: it being immutable law that all revolutions that will succeed must being in blood, whatever may answer afterward."

My sons have them for their units and service branches. They have no interest in collecting. The only time I see one is when they pass it to a friend or relative who asked for one. By brother in law collects golf balls from different courses. Now he has a lot of golf balls. What do you do with a golf ball collection?

You play golf with them. That's after you've run out of the balls you bought and shot into the water traps.
That's what I'd need to do with them.

Right now the only thing I'm collecting are a few military rifles, and a whole bunch of ammo.
At least we all know what I'll be doing with that stuff.

When they come for your guns, give them the ammo first!

I received the left coin from our Squadron Commander, Col. Isaacs, back in 1991. I was a track driver with 1st Squadron, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment during Desert Storm. Don't rightly recall why he gave it to me, but I also got two AARCOM's as well. One for "successfully navigating an enemy minefield during combat". Truth be told, I'd fallen asleep with my CVC resting against the rim of the driver's hatch. My T.C. Cpt. Davidson smacked me on the helmet with one of the whip antennas, screaming at me to stop. I stopped, looked left - no Maj. Trahan in his M1 Ambrams............ looked right and no Col. Isaacs in his Bradley.

Looked back at Cpt. D and he's screaming "We're in the middle of a !@#$%^& minefield!!!"

Took about 30 minutes to back out of that thing.

The one on the right is when I was stationed back stateside with 2/7 Cavalry. I was working in S3 at the time. We were on a field problem and I had been on radio watch all night. The SGM came into the TOC and asked if I'd draw a cool picture on the butcher board for the officer's brief in about an hour. Couldn't really say no, so I drew a Bradley in amongst some trees. Right before the brief, the SGM came up to me and said that Col. (I forget his name now) did not much care for the drawing.

Now I had a bit of a temper back then. I was tired from being up all night, asked to do something that I thought was a bit cheesy and proceeded to tell the SGM that this was ridiculous. At that point, I realized that I was a mere E-4 amongst E-8's, two E-9's and a plethora of LT's and Captains - including the Col..

The Colonel came up to me with a grim look and stared back and forth between me and the SGM.

    I was dead.

Then everyone bursts into laughter and he presents me with the Squadron Coin.

God I miss the Army. LOL

Presented on my K Pot camo cover from the helmet I tried to never wear when I was over there, man I hated those things!

And just me playing with some Iraqi toys before we promptly blew them up.

I drag this one back up.

Here is just one of several I have. This one means the most, after all it was what I did for a living in a past life.

    Nice coind and patches

I have several coins and patches. However I have know idea where they be. The main reason for that is the Jim storage/file system. I stashed them in a old brief case. The brief case is buried someplace in my home. One day I'll hunt that case down.

My wife will come along and move things. Say she might have put that case in a larger box with other items. That are stacked on top of it. On a good day I may spend a little time hunting for things. Most of the time if I do not find a item within a half hour or less. I get frustrated and think screw this. And I move on to other things.

One day I'm going to fix that situation. And dumpster all the junk that has been accumulated in my home. As you can see my wife and I are pack rats. In the near future that is going to change. My wife has a hard time throwing anything away. Most of those items are valuable items she hates to throw out.

One weekend my son and I donated 6 or 7 pick up truck loads of items. To the Salvation Army. That did not make much of a dent in the junk. But it helped a little bit.

    Cool

The coin in the middle is from the last LE agency I was with prior to retirement.

The two on either side were given by friends who were members of the represented groups.

When I was young my Mother told me I could be anyone I wanted to be. Turns out the police call that 'Identity Theft.'
