    Save The M1 Garand

I ran across this on the Big Hollywood site
I know there are some who say petitions are meaningless, but I say - What can it hurt to show your concern?

    P.S. Rand Paul supports this:

The thought of a 'gang banger' using a Garand shows just how little the anti-gun people know. This sort of nonsense makes the thread about the media's view/thoughts on guns ring true (and shows how stupid they are)

If anyone really wants to save it, the Gun Depot in Mesa has one that needs a home! Plus a couple other carbines.

I'd adopt one myself, but home remodeling is a little higher on the priority list right now. I could buy one, but I'd pay for it later.

Not trying to start a fight: How do you know that RP supports the NAGR scare tactic fund raiser? I couldn't find anything about NAGR on his site.

Sounds like someone is whipped. Is your one ear longer than the other?

From what I've heard most if not all of these Korean Garands are pretty much worthless. They were all arsenal rebuilds to begin with, and they've been in cold storage the entire time. They've become badly rusted and most of them suffer from wood rot, due to poor storage practice.
If they do have any real value, CMP will eventually get them and do what they can to save as many as possible.
I talked to a lady over at CMP about these Garands, and she said they would probably cost more to get them here than they'll ever be worth.
She mentioned that she heard the quality was very poor from storage problems over there. Since I have my CMP membership I was curious if there would be a new batch of rifles coming in from there. So I gave them a call.
They have to be completely cataloged, classified, and then packed for shipping. Then they have to be transported, shipped and then transposrte to CMP from whereever the land here in the USA. Once they get back here, they have to be unpacked, cleaned completely, gone thru to catagorize their condition, and then gone thru for the CMP certification. Any bad parts would be discarded and then the good parts would eventually need to be refitted to build a servicable rifle again. Not a very good prospect of them getting here at this time.

    But there is always hope.

Now here's that part thet will surely raise some Ire.....

[Edited to stipulate I mentioned Ron Paul in error, the OP was discussing the son Rand Paul instead. My post will otherwise remain unchanged for the sake of open discussion]
In my opinion, as far as Ron Paul goes, I think he's he's a nut case. I'm pretty sure he has a tin foil hat in his closet too.
He's anti-military and has no clue about foreign relations. Do you really think he would let nearly a million military rifles (Garands) into this country under his watch? I seriously doubt it. He doesn't need to take a position on this subject. Nobody else is, and it's a dead subjest for the most part.

Ron Paul or any other future President has no power at all the eliminate the The Fed, IRS, Homeland Security, or the BATFE. It will take an act of Congress to do any of those things. It's all smoke and mirrors again.
They don't have enough friends on the hill to stand on this. They're guilty of creating tens of thousands of government jobs, and running up the national debt as anybody else. The House and Congress have unadulterated job security, by creating government jobs and setting pay and benefit levels for these jobs so far above what the public sector can afford. They've created their own voter base. Every government employee is in their pocket.
If any members of the House or the Senate, seriously threaten to cut any Gov't jobs, they've kissed their chances of re-election down the drain. and these days they might end up being recalled as well.
Why do you think they tell us it'll take 10-15 years before they can get the budget balanced? It'll take that long for enough gov't employees to retire or die off. They say they're reducing taxes. NOT, they're just reducing the increases for the next year or two, on projects they've already promised money.
They'll NEVER actually reduce the National debt because they can't! It's not in their best interest.
So all we can do is hope we will survive when the country goes bankrupt. No government has ever survived beyond their debt capability. what makes us believe America is any different or better than what history has already witnessed.

    That's my $.04 for today.

Seems to me that the current POTUS is doing a good job of ignoring the Constitution... And it was RAND PAUL...One more thing...We the people do not now or have we EVER elected the POTUS...The Electorial coillege does...they are not bound by law to cast their vote for the popular candidate at all...

It is Rand Paul, not Ron Paul. I do respect your opinion though. I had the same opinion about Ron Paul a few years ago. I actually support Ron now, my wife a conservative thinks I am nuts. I believe in non interventionism, getting rid of all the useless government agencies, blah, blah blah. If nothing else, he has other Republicans talking about his proposals. In 2008 I held my nose and voted for McCain. Now they push a candidate as bad as McCain for 2012. I am tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. I will vote Paul, because I agree with 95% of what he does.

Gregory, I think you and I have similar views, but I am going to try a different course. I figure since Paul has never filed for a congressional pension, he is putting his money where his mouth is. I must say you expressed a well articulated opinion that anyone can respect.
