Any other revolver guys/gals having a hard time going to the other side?

I've been shooting for about a year now and own four S&W revolvers. Guess you wouldn't know by looking at my avatar and signature line. Also, just got my CCW a week or so ago.

Anyhow, I keep looking at the Ruger LCP as a possible warm weather primary or regular back up gun. But, something about pistols that keeps me from ordering one. Only about $300, it would seem to be a good investment and I know they are quite popular. Not quite sure exactly why either.

Any other revolver guys/gals ever come up with the same problem with pistols? What did you end up doing about it?

I carry a 3913 as primary, and a 640ND J-frame as a BUG, problem solved. In your case with what I see, I'd carry the 67 or 3" 60 as primary, and the 642 as a BUG.

I've shot the Ruger .380LCP and didn't like it. Trigger pull was too long and didn't have a nice 'hill' to stop at, kick was terrible, and the two finger grip wasn't very comfortable. I also watched two people not familiar with it get bit after firing a few rounds with it, they didn't know to keep their thumbs out of the way. Just my opinion though, my suggestion is to try it before you buy it if you can. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but I like to shoot my guns regularly, and this isn't one that if I had I would want to practice with a lot. And to me, that's not a good thing.

I personally prefer Brenda's Airweight and my Beretta Bobcat. The Bobcat fires .22lr, but it carries 8 and is accurate enough for my own comfort. I've also just bought a Bersa Tunder 380 and really like it. It's a bit bigger than the Bobcat and doesn't fit in a pocket. But it's small enough and light enough I can usually have it someplace close by. Probably get a IWB holster for it soon.

Good luck with your search, there are a lot of choices out there.

In my neighborhood, some swear by them, other's swear at them.

My opinion, a pig in a poke, ya lays down ya money and takes the chance.

But ain't it the truth in nearly anything one buys nowadays?

Like you I don't currently own any bottom feeders although I can see their supposed advantages. If your military or LEO I can see the need for more rounds but for myself I can't imagine being so deep in the sh*t that 6 isn't enough. I much prefer knowing that if a round fails to fire all I need do is pull the trigger again. Just my opinion. Jeff

I've shot the LCP. While I did not find the recoil offensive (remember I shot heavy 44Mag and a .500), I too was put off by the long trigger pull. It did not break until it was nearly at the rear of the trigger guard. The only gun I shot with a trigger pull length close to that was a Jericho 941. I agree it is a gun that needs as much, if not more, practice than a big bore revolver to fully master.

Now a Bersa Thunder CC, which is notably heavier at 16.4oz, is about the size of an LC9. That is very controllable as well as being very accurate. I've not shot the LC9 but I think people say that it tends to be pretty close in terms of recoil as the LCP. For 380 carry, I'd give that Bersa a long look-see.

BUD11....If you think you want a Poly Semi to carry. I would first not look at a .380 round...Your better off with a 22MAG..My small carry gun is a GLOCK 36 45ACP...It's small, concealable, and deadly ........And no feeding problem's.....The .380 round "SUCKS"

    Bud ,

I often carry my wee .32 Seecamp . However it is def a LOW threat carry ( if there is such a thing ) .

As far as carry guns , the next in line is a Model 19 snubby . I'm comfy w that one for any situation .

In my bedrm there is my S&W 1911 , my go to gun if the SHTF .

Next to that is the SA XDsc 9mm that holds 16 rounds . If I need that one something has really gone to crap , but one never knows .

So no , I have no problem w a semi , despite having many more revolvers .....................

Do yourself a favor - rent a LCP , or whatever strikes your fancy , at the range .
I eliminated many contenders that way .

    Regards ,
    George

Any semi-auto is going to bite your thumb if you keep it behind the slide. If you are used to keeping your thumb behind the hammer of your wheelguns for quick single action cocking, you have to rethink things. (I'm talking about your off-hand thumb when your using both hands, here) Keep a small first aid kit handy first time at the range just in case. I recommend you go to a shooting range and rent an LCP before you buy one. There is a significant trigger pull. Ruger says you won't notice it when the adrenaline is rushing. They might have a point.
