What's the engraving on the side panel? I can't make it out clearly.
That's the emblem of Clint Smith's "Thunder Ranch" training school. Smith & Wesson made a run of "Thunder Ranch Edition" 21-4's in 44 Special (there is also a 45 acp version too I believe). According to the sotry I heard, Clint campaigned to get Smith to bring them back as the "ultimate fighting revolver". I got it because I didn't have a 44 Special and it looks kinda like a big Model 10. Yea, it's a non pinned, MIM, lock gun, but I like it anyway.

The grips aren't bad. I'd rather have square butt one's, but that's what they got.

That includes the brass. I paid 53 dollars for 100 pieces. But if I get 10 loadings out of each piece, then the cost is the same as 53 dollars per 1,000 pcs brass fired once. So that works out to 5.3¢ per casing.

Next we have H110 at 22 dollars per pound. With a pound being 7,000 grains, that works out to $0.003 per grain. Loading 43g H110 per case works out to 13¢ per charge. So now we are up to 18.3¢.

The bullets! By far, they are the most expensive part of the load. But, paying 23 dollars per 50ct box of Speer 350g DeepCurls, that's 46¢ per bullet. So that will put me to 64.3¢ per load. Add another 3¢ for each primer and yes, I did go above the 60¢ per round figure. If I substitute a 40g charge of 2400 for a bit slower loading (though nowhere near as slow as using Unique or TItegroup), that works out to 11¢ per charge at 20 dollars per pound of 2400. Now my load is 65¢ per round.

Now if I want to get a lighter level loading, I can use Longshot at 21/lb and a 23.5g charge. That works out to 7¢ per charge of powder. So now we have 5.3¢ for the brass, 7¢ for 23.5g Longshot, 46¢ per bullet, and 3¢ per primer, that adds up to 61.3¢ per round. I can go below 60 cents by going to Titegroup with an 18.5g charge at 20 per pound.

So I will stand corrected. It's more like 67¢ for a full house H110 load and 65¢ for a max load of 2400. And admittedly, that's most of the loadings I will be using. But if I want either a 500 special level loading or even a light magnum, I am right by the 60¢ level.

I have two big hitters, one is a .44Spl, and the other is a .45ACP. No need to go magnum with these two!!

    ShootinSteel,
What part of the country do you hail from?
You must really have some good neighbors!

My firearms are an investment on my life.
When the time comes that I don't want a new gun, call the undertaker!
The average response time for 911 is 20 min., the average response time for .357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

I reside in countryish NE Ohio. Suffice to say my neighbors normally know when I'm home , but they are good people.
